I initially went into retail at Walgreens because I liked the flexibility of being able to work whatever hours I wanted as a mother with young children. I also had to work for them for a year since they paid part of my tuition. I always longed to return to a more clinical setting or start my own business, but somehow 10 years slipped away before I got serious about it.
My question is... Is it ok to explain any of that in my cover letter? I don't want to just appear as a retail burnout. I really have always wanted to pursue a more clinical direction for the long-term. I don't know if I'll be a desirable candidate or not though at this point. I didn't do a residency, but I was a straight A student in pharmacy school and did work for 5 years at a hospital as a technician. I feel that I can do a lot more than I am doing in my current position, and I'm just not sure how to explain my goals in the letter.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
