% Coverage in the MCAT exam

Is this true? In physical science, the exam covers 50% physics and 50% general chemistry, on average. In biological science, the exam covers 75% biology and 25% organic chemistry, on average.

That's about right, though you will get deviations from each administration of the exam.

My MCAT was ~60% Chem on PS. I also remember having 2 organic passages (1 of the passages was a biochem passage so it mixed bio and ochem) and a few stand-alones.

Agree with the above. BS is definitely much more bio, but I would say there's slightly more chem than physics on PS.

Thanks. Good to know. It's odd because my content review for o.chem is thicker than biology. (i.e. I am using TBR Chem and EK Bio). Hmmmm....

All I know is that I hope there isn't as much o-chem on the real thing as there was in AAMC 6. I just finished that one and the o-chem KILLED me. There was so much of it, and I didn't know most of it. I've been taking the AAMCs in order and I've been able to skate by on the o-chem, but not this time. Boo. 🙁

I had heard it was 60% biology and 40% organic [according to the 2010 Kaplan MCAT Prep book and others] but i'm sure the real thing is different.

I had also heard they were leaning more toward less organic so i guess it could be 75/25 already.

It all depends. On the official AAMC website, I'm pretty sure its 25% orgo and 75% biology but these are all approximations. If the test makes feel they need to emphasize more orgo, the breakdown will change to 30% orgo and 70% biology. Same with the PS section. It ranges from test to test but the percentages are just an approximation.

I have no clue as I have not taken the real test; however in the practice test that I took the PS section seemed to be more like 90% Chemistry, 10% Physics. Which sucked.
