We are about to launch CPOE, and going to start with hospitalists first. It will take a year or so until we have a full-blown CPOE. Any of you were or are in the same shoes? I just don't like the fact that we will have some CPOE orders and some manual orders. Just wondering how other hospitals are handling it.

My local news station did a story last night from pharmacists who were for and against CPOE. One of them was very outspoken about difficulties of dealing with having both systems and that he wasn't impressed with the switch not being made more seamlessly.

I'll try to find it for you online - I'm not sure if they do webcasts or not.

OP: What software are you going up on?

Siemens... I hate the fact that I have to maintain dual PDMs, one for Soarian clinical and one for Siemens Rx.

It would be interesting to see who is your implementation goes. It is a painful process and it depends pretty much on how the hierarchial shape between management and MDs and whether your hospital is for profit or not profit, charity or governmental Pharmacists got to suffer great deal of the consequences and the system glitches will give you terrible time so be prepared. It also depends on how far did you go in your automation journey and whether BCMA, CPOE, CMARS and pharmacy systems are connected together or not.

Good luck in the process.
