It might depend on the school . . . but at CU med school they teach American Heart Association Health Care Provider-C unless you already have this level when you start as an MS-1 (in which case you are exempt with written permission).
Where do people usually go to get CPR certified? A job for a patient transport wanted CPR certified so I didn't even apply. I probaby should have and then just got the certification later.
Try your local fire dept. If they don't do it, they will let you know who does.fullefect1 said:

American Heart Assoc. and American Red Cross are the two organizations that offer CPR certifications. They should have info on where classes are being held locally. Many towns offer CPR classes through their Parks and Recs Dept, Fire, Police or Ambulance. Call AHA or Red Cross - they should be able to point you in the right direction since they are the organizations that ultimately grant you the CPR card.
BTW if you enjoy it, take a CPR instructor class - it can be a flexible way to earn a little cash.

One more point- eventually you will need ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) Certification, but this is taken care of later in med school.

Beware! Last time I took ACLS the AHA card was required. It is easier to alleviate potential issues by just taking the AHA class.

AHA CPR is taught by many med schools during orientation and isn't required prior to matriculation.

Sweet Tea: That's actually not true for all schools. At UVA we are required to show proof that we are BLS-AED certified BEFORE we arrive for orientation. I'm taking the Red Cross course because the AHA doesn't offer it that I could find...I called the place the national organization told me to call and they didn't know what I was talking about.
