Am i supposed to assume that there aren't cubes behind the front stack? I'm just so confused on this because this is the only one I keep missing. It's just bugging the crap out of me. Also the way this program spells analyze is annoying as well...

Don't assume any cube is there.
The only time you can assume is if it's required for the stack of a cube higher up that you CAN see.

So for this question. 9 cubes are in the front row, 3 cubes are in the back row, and 4 cubes are in between.
