Crappy Albert Einstein Aid!!!

What the HECK!!! I got $10,500 in grants from UMICH (out of state) and only $2,500 from Albert Einstein!!!! What is going on? Has anyone else had big discrepancies like this? I though Einstein gave good financial aid. Am I wrong? Has anyone else here received crappy aid from Albert Einstein? ( I really wanted to go to Albert Einstein, but this price tag has made my decision difficult!!!)

I got lots in grants from Duke, but zero from Emory, just $49K in loans. However, Duke is known for being pretty generous with their aid.

The largest grant Einstein will give any student is $2500 in scholarship and $5500 in loans. I'm even surprised that I was given a some AE loan money considering my state school gave me nothing.

According to US News their average indebtedness is 85K!!! How the heck is this possible if what Dr. Kermit said is true?? I think AECOM is sketchy.

Their average indebtedness is 85K, but the average student also gets 5K in AE loans which is another 20K in debt not factored into that figure. So, if you add it up, it's 105K plus your 10K in grant which is ~115K. It's all sketchy yes, but if you want to go somewhere, I guess schools figure you'll cough up the dough.

Do you know how AECOM finaid compares with SINAI and NYU???? I am waitlisted at both.....

From what I've heard, neither NYU nor Sinai offer that great of FA packages. Sinai is actually increasing their tuition over the course of 4 years so that it will be comparable to any other private school (~32K). NYU just expects you to be able to cough up the dough. A number of students have told me that this often pays off...it's probably worth a shot. Call AECOM and tell them about your much better offer from UMich. Perhaps they'll match it! I know that Penn tries to do this, and I've heard that other schools do too.

I can understand your frustration in the discrepancy and the fact that it is not fair for people with lower incomes. However, as someone who has not received any acceptances yet, I would be happy to be in your situation and would quickly accept the offer AE extended. I guess it's all perspective. I'm not in your shoes and you're not in mine. Congratulations though. Maybe you can send some kind of appeal letter or something.

I think we all make one common mistake, make our school decision based on the package they give the first year. It is almost given that they won't offer you the same package once you are in. The best way to approach this is to go to the school you really want to go. The most difference it will make is a few thousand dollars(10,500 Vs 2500). Is 4 years of your life worth more than $8000?
