After hearing about my school funding an allowance of $500,000 to set up a new experiment in a lab, I had this crazy idea... We have a university health center on campus with doctors, gyn/ob, eye docs, dentists, etc. What do you think about a contract with a university (or other institutions) that would pay for my tuition in exchange for year-for-year working at their health center at a reduced salary? Or are there dentists that would possibly do something like that and have you work in their office and not have to pay as much as another dentist?

What do you think?

High risk, trust me schools are not going to make it "rain" on you. while they can actually get doctors, dentists (who are not that great but ok at their job) can work at a university for a lower pay. While they hire highly trained nurse to make sure doctors do their jobs.

What??? This is news to me! I have questions!
1. How many other universities out there provide dental care for the students?
2. How is it paid for? (Is it part of the student insurance plan?)
3. Is it available to all students?
4. What kind of services do they provide? (Like do they do ortho, hygiene and surgical wisdom tooth removal?

At my school any dental care students receive at the undergrad level are free. Let's say if I needed a crown and my buddy preps the tooth all I have to do is pay the lab fee and the rest is free. All grad fees are reduced 50% (grad endo, perio, ortho, etc.).

1. I'm not sure how many provide dental care, but if the school has a health center (and I would think most large universities have them) then they probably have dentists.
2. It is a fee-for-service clinic, but will run through insurance plans if the student brings a card.
3. Yes, it is available for all students who have paid the university's fees.
4. This is a quote from my health center..."The Dental Clinic provides preventive, restorative, cosmetic and emergency dental care. Services include cleanings, x-rays, restoratives including fillings and crowns, root canals, extractions, fabrication of TMJ/clenching appliances and athletic mouth guards and teeth whitening. Referrals are given as needed. This service is available to students, their spouses/partners, Faculty and Staff, and their spouses/partners."
