Call me naive (and I'm sure I'll be thoroughly desensitized to patient's suffering when I'm done with med school) but I do think medicine can be practiced without labeling patients as crazy.

Good luck with that.

I have tons but this quick recent one comes to mind: When I was doing my endocrinology elective one of my patients in the psych ward was a type I diabetic. She tried to kill herself by leaving her room at midnight and chugging the orange juice in the common area to go into DKA.

I really shouldn't laugh at this but I cant help it. I keep playing out her thought process in my mind. I swear... if committing suicide was THAT delicious, we wouldn't have a population/resource problem.

Hmm I work a private mental health residence and treatment facility and the people we get are the "rejects" from every where else.. I deal with crazy residents all the time... Lets see... One lady who used to live here was obese and had a low but normal IQ had a blood sugar level of almost 600 one day... So we called the ambulance to get her to the hospital because she refused to go with staff. When the paramedics came she refused to go to the hospital and threatened to masturbate if the paramedics didn't leave... so she started to masturbate, but the paramedics didn't leave... Then she said the only way she would leave with the paramedics is if she left naked (I think she thought the paramedics wouldn't agree and leave), so the paramedics agreed to that deal and she walked out butt-naked and was screaming repeatedly "LOOK EVERYBODY I'M NAKED" and was grabbing her breasts and just acting a plum fool. The same lady at one time was mad at staff for some reason and was repeatedly calling the front office just to annoy staff. So staff threatened to take her cell phone if she kept calling, but she continued anyway... So when staff went into her room she put her cell phone up her vagina! LMAO...I have a lot more, but I don't feel like writing them out... lol, stories like the ones above make me love my job!

 Not what I was expecting, but hilarious nonetheless.

Kind of a different side to this thread, but I have recently had tons of exposure to children with very serious psychiatric problems. Hate to be a downer, but it can get really sad...
