Hi, I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to help me create a school list, as I recently received my MCAT score. I am hoping to stay in California but I am obviously not guaranteed that, so I thought SDN might be able to help. As a current senior applying next cycle, I have started to think about my school list.
cGPA and sGPA as calculated by AMCAS or AACOMAS
My cGPA and sGPA are about a 3.87 and a 3.80, respectively.
MCAT score(s) and breakdown
525: 131/132/132/130
State of residence or country of citizenship (if non-US)
CA
Ethnicity and/or race
Asian
Undergraduate institution or category
One of the top three UCs 🙂
Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer)
Typical volunteering in a hospital, about 200 hours. I have a clinical job that is about 8 hours a week, for two years now.
Research experience and productivity
Two years in a lab, as well as two summer internships. 4 posters which were presented at tiny school/summer program poster days. Summer internships were about 400 hours each and research is about 15 hours a week. I also have a publication as like...20th author in a decent journal.
Shadowing experience and specialties represented
~50 hours shadowing across multiple disciplines
Non-clinical volunteering
nonclinical volunteering is about 100 hours during a wide variety of things. Essentially, my volunteering is sufficient, but probably not stellar.
Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc)
Nothing particularly standout.
Relevant honors or awards
Er, some small scholarship (merit-based)?
Anything else not listed you think might be important
I double major in literature.
Schools list: Essentially I'll be applying to all the ones in california: UCLA, UCSD, UCI, UCD , UCSF, Stanford, etc. Beyond that, I don't really know where I might go. I'm not super concerned with prestige, as nice as it is, but I'm just wondering how far my MCAT score can really take me if my extracurriculars aren't super tip-top as an ORM especially. I'm definitely a more rounded applicant than a pointy one. Suggestions? I particularly don't want to end up in the South or the Midwest, as geographical location is pretty important to me.
