i'm an undergrad student trying to apply for some dental schools all over us. right now, im working on my personal statement, (this is the only thing left that's delaying me for applying), and i have asked some of my friends (who have been accepted to dental schools in us) abt this personal statement. Most of them told me it looks fine, however, some also said that i need to work on the intro part, cause it should be really creative and intriguing, to be able to stand out.

now, my question is, do i have to write a really creative personal statement, or should it just be the way it should be, like a "personal" statement, just telling the comittee directly and clearly who we are, our goals, what motivated and intrigued us for wanting to become a dentist, etc?????

any feedbacks are welcomed and appreciated, thanks!!! 🙂

My personal statement was direct and to the point. It was almost like a job resume with the reasons why I choose dentistry included in there.

Write it and then send it to essayedge. Thats what I did and I was VERY VERY happy. They'll make it sound soooo good that you will not believe they are talking about you. It will cost about 100$ but it worth every penny (at least for me).

Dont forget your personal statement should be different from the others. Put yourself in the adcom position - you have to read thousands of personal statements. If the one you are reading now is "like the other once" you will read the first paragraph and throw it to the side. No applicant wants the admissions officer to do this to his personal statement, right?

Mine was kinda like a story of my life and goals along with some humor for fun. I figured if its easy to read and they get a few laughs out of it then they might want to meet me. I don't think there is a right or wrong way to write the essay but you do want it to be different form all the others.

I'd say go for some creativity, especially for the first sentence. If you can get them interested right away, it'll make them want to read more. Toss your most stunning accomplishment in their faces first (that's what I did)!

Disclaimer: I haven't gotten accepted anywhere yet, so I can't yet say whether this strategy actually worked for me. Heh heh.

I was in the same boat actually...and I think I've finally got it!!! Hopefully I'll be cutting and pasting that bad boy on my AADSAS tomorrow and sending it off finally!! ANYWAY, bottom line...just be honest, don't try and come across as overly cute or creative because let's face it, by now everyone has tried EVERYTHING in the books to make their essay 'stand out'. Everyone wants to stand out. If you're genuine and YOU are happy with your essay, then I say go with it.

Good luck!
