I'm a pre-dental student and just finished my sophomore year. I've been taking heavy courseloads (17-18 credits every fall and winter semester, and at least 4 credits in the summer) and have kept my GPA at a 3.91. My question is would it look bad to dental schools if I took 14 credits in both the fall and winter semesters of my junior and senior year?

Although it is only 14 credits, it's 6 classes because 3 of them are labs (5 credits total), 2 are lectures ( 8 credits total) and one online class (1 credit). I also do research with a professor, are in some extracurriculars, and have a job (10 hrs a week). At this time, I would like to start studying for the DAT and will be writing my thesis for Honors College as well. On top of that, I will be shadowing dentists also.

Should I still consider taking another 4 credit class so it will be at 18 credits total? I don't want dental schools to think I took less credits than I normally do and have that against me.

I took 12 credits my last two years of undergrad and it didn't hurt me. Save yourself the stress and do 14 the fact that you have maintained a 3.91 with 18 credit semesters should more than show your ability to handle heavy course loads.

Agreed. As long as you are not taking min amount of credits to be considered as a full time student, you are fine.

I took the minimum and didn't have an issue but I also worked 30 plus hours a week a majority of undergrad while volunteering 3 plus hours a week so I guess it depends how busy you are.

Ok thanks! I was worried about making it look like I have it easy that semester, but I will have a ton of other stuff thats not school related to do as well so I'm gonna need the time to do it.
