Just got something in the mail from them and I was curious what everyone thought?

Omnione is a P1 there this year; maybe he can post something about it for us? I plan to apply there for Fall 2008, mainly because I am looking for midwest schools where I meet the requirements. I've never been to Omaha, but it doesn't sound too bad to me.

Haha I was just about to ask if you thought Omaha was any good, as it seems that it would be pretty boring there, but I definitely have NO idea.

Omnione, where ya at buddy?! 😉

Hmm...maybe it depends on your perspective. I grew up in a moderately-sized midwestern town (around 300,000 people), so I can't imagine that Omaha would be any more boring than that was.

I'm currently a P1 at Creighton. We're barely in our second week, but I feel that the professors, staff, and other students are very friendly and always there to help you. The campus is a little small, but nice. One of the buildings that we're in is brand new and state of the art. Creighton University also has a hospital where you can work or do rotations in. Creighton is very technology oriented. We got a laptop during orientation, and will be switching for another laptop during our third year.

Prior to Omaha, I've lived in big cities all my life. Omaha is somewhat boring. But it doesn't lack anything that the big cities have. They have a million restaurants, malls, parks, bars, etc...

I chose Creighton because I liked the school during my interview. Omaha is OK city-wise. But, we're going to pharmacy school for the education, right? Anyway, they really do take care of their students here. I'd highly recommend others to apply to Creighton.

Omaha is not a bad city. It's very comfortable to live in... and while I complained and wanted to move away the whole 8 years I lived there, now that I am living elsewhere, I kind of miss it. It was not as much fun as the big city I grew up in, but it had its pluses. Besides, Midwest is so much cheaper! And there is plenty of good beef for the carnivores among us.

I went to UNMC, but I worked with a lot of people who went to Creighton, and they liked it. The campus looks OK (though it's impossible to park there). The downsides are tuition (three times what we paid), lack of free housing on most rotations, and to me it seemed their curriculum was geared more towards traditional community/hospital practice rather than clinical, but it is based on very superficial knowledge.

17 credit hours and potential mayhem on the PCAT boards have kept me busy.😀

Omaha is not L.A., NYC, or any major metro area you can name. Let's establish that first. However, Omaha is like a mini-me of those cities where it takes a sample of the elements from those big cities. So, you'll find the historical and neat places like the old Dundee neighborhood along with the surburbanite area of west Omaha filled with newer places. The zoo is excellent, downtown Omaha is a booming site for corporate business (Warren Buffett is a resident). Of course, some places are bad like North Omaha, but the smaller size of the city makes the effects more negligible than your prototypical big city. Overall, the variety in Omaha and the college-life atmosphere in Lincoln won't bore most; there's just fewer quantities of these varieties.

As for the school, h2oisgood4u is correct about the technology in Creighton. Aside from our stone-age anatomy professor, using laptops in class is a common necessity where most professors orient their presentations and materials to revolve around the web. If you don't like computers at all, then you probably aren't going to like Creighton's program or at least seem out of place here. In addition, the school revolves around the service-oriented principles that correlate to the school's Jesuit values. A student will get many opportunities to be in service projects with the pharmacy classes as well as the university as a whole.

The pharmacy facilities are good, but the rest of the campus isn't up to par compared to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and other prominent institutions. For one reason or another, the NAPLEX passage rate of the recent classes has been below the national average. I was told that this had partly to do with the format change but neighboring pharmacy school UNMC and many other schools didn't fluctuate much at all. Perhaps this is reflected in UNMC's higher ranking in the U.S. News, if that means anything to you. Lastly, the private school tuition is kicking my ass.😳

The people here are very supportive and try their hardest to prevent a competitive atmosphere through selection of the class members and the lack of a class ranking (this is a little b.s. because Rho Chi has to use something to get rushers😉). In the first two-and-a-half weeks of class, I've been bombarded by numerous opportunities to join groups lead by people who really want you to be a part of their mission. My fellow classmates have been mostly approachable despite the short time we've had to meet each other. I'm planning to attend a Kappa Psi social tomorrow, my residence hall's BBQ and Phi Delta Chi gigs on Thursday, and the class plans to field multiple intramural teams. If you want a social network that supports, not competes with, you, then Creighton accomplishes that.

So far, I'm having a fun time as the school designed the first semester to ease students into professional school life. This post summarizes my general feelings towards Creighton so far, so feel free to ask any specific questions.

Great info! Thanks!

As a CU undergrad for the past 3 years, I really enjoyed my time here at Creighton and Omaha is not that bad 🙂

Does anyone know if it is easier to get into Creighton compared to other pharmacy schools? Can anyone pls also let me know which pharmacy schools are easier to get into... I am very confused which school to apply to
