After going to the 2nd look weekend I feel very comfortable with choosing Creighton over a cheaper state school. They really do care about the students and everything seems to be with our interest in mind. You also have to consider that they have raised their admission standards when looking at test scores. Creighton's MCAT avg has been climbing...so it could be attributed to that or any number of variables.
i really should have gone to 2nd look....would've been worth the money. I really feel Creighton does care more for their students, which is why i'm reluctant to say no. NYMC has it's pros and cons, pros being more in location, education, diversity, facilities, hospitals; cons being cost, more comp. than creighton (although they say it's really not), unsupportive admin. and for Creighton: pros - support, classmates, opportunities given (i.e., volunteering) cons - location (as in far from home); cost, diversity (not too bad, but seems like pretty much white, black, hispanic)
location weighs heavily, which is the major reason I wouldn't say no to NYMC w/o any glaring problems. Many people mention competitiveness, but every student I have talked to has said otherwise, even with more grading levels that are based on class percentage; people mention the administration, but I don't know how much I really care about that.
creighton is very far away, and can't compare to nyc on any level aside from cost, but i also can't say no to creighton b/c it is a great school and everyone is supportive and helpful and want you to succeed.
i would be very happy at either school, but I just have to figure out where I'd be a little happier. That's why i've been trying to compare things like curriculum, test scores, etc, to try to find little differences to hint at the school. No MD med school will be "bad"...or most....and definitely not these two, imo.
Creighton match list is midwest/west coast heavy, but i think that has more to do with where people want to go back home to. I dont' recognize most of those hospitals to know if they are good or not, like Iowa, Colorado...i've asked in the thread i made in preallo and no one said anything.
anyway, i think i just have to figure out where i'd be a happier person....i dont' know if i really want to live in a hole in the wall in nyc for 1000 dollars a month, but maybe the experience is worth it. i've never lived in a city, so idk if i'm actually a city person....valhalla would give me both...creighton would give me city, but it's really not that big of a city to make me think i won't like it if i'm not a city person.
