Is anyone attending there online Pharmacy program and if so can you give me some feedback on the program. I'm really considering their program since its online I will be able to still work fulltime while working on the pharmacy degree.

Here is a list of the following SDNers who reported that they were accepted this year and currently are Creighton web-based students:

ajh88
drugdoc
tckc
LTPharmD
bluejayhawk
MNpharm

The older Roll Call threads didn't make the distinction between web-based and campus-based so I can't report those handles.

Do note that just because you have the flexibility to work with the web-based program, you still have to pay attention to school as you will be listening to a lot of podcasts without the classroom element. Keep that in mind as you'll have to manage your time well to juggle all of these components of your life.

We are still have the "home of college football mecca", and as a result, our expectations for being the steward of said mecca has us running out the coach once this season is over.😀

I interviewed and was accepted into their web-based program, but did not accept the offer. They definitely discourage the web-based students from working full-time - this subject came up in our interview group. You will be a full-time student just as if you were on campus, so unless you can live on 3 hours of sleep a night, the web-based program is still going to take up a lot of your time.

I'm not exactly sure how to give you feedback because I don't know what kind of information you are looking for - the nuts and bolts of how it works, how demanding it is, how competitive it is, etc? Feel free to PM me if you'd like and I'll do what I can to answer your questions.

As for working full-time - I'm not going to say it can't be done. Yes, they absolutely discourage it and personally, I would also. However, I am sure that you will find people who have done it and who have still graduated. For me, I started the semester in transition between 2 jobs and for a couple of weeks I was working about 45 hours a week. It was absolutely horrible and there is no way I could have done it for a prolonged period of time. I basically worked all week and spent all weekend cramming all of my lectures (about 13-15 hours worth) and homework in - it wasn't an effective learning strategy for me. I am now at 1 job and working 24 hours a week, which is much more manageable.

I am married and have a child, so those obligations take my time also - if you are totally unencumbered and will only be working and going to school, you may be able to handle more.

Anyway, as I said, I'm happy to try and provide any other information I can if you have some specific questions.

Thanks for all the replies, I decided to go with Xavier Univeristy instead because (1) I work there so I think I have an advantage over other people and (2) I already have a great deal of their prerequisites already and (3) I can get a discount on taking the rest of the other prerequisites!

Thanks for the many replies, I appreciate all of the answers in my time of need!

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I am very interested in Creighton's program online. I am hoping that I can get my act together and finish my pre-reqs during 2008 and part of 2009, with entry into school in 2010. Tell me--what was the competition like? What kind of GPA and PCAT scores were accepted into the online program?

I defintely think I would like to still work somehow--maybe drop down to about 20 hours/week--my job is very supportive and flexible, and I really don't want to leave it while I am in school...What is your typical schedule/balancing act like working AND going to school online?

Stats for this fall's distance class:

Average age: 31
PCAT: 89
Science: can't remember 3.4??
Cum: can't remember 3.4??
We've got around 15 men, 40 women.

Distance stats are usually higher than campus class.

Personally, working more than 20-25 hours a week is CRAZY!! You have to treat school like a full-time job. So, think about 40 hours plus your work hours. It honestly is around 35-40 hours a week, some more, some less. That entails: 15 hours of watching lectures, 1 hour for posting on the web, 1-2 hours for exams, and studying (I do about 20 hours per week and am at a 3.6 right now. I would guess a 4.0 would be another 10 hours per week of studying for me, but I like to sleep and have a social life, too).

Every day during Welcome Week at least one professor/administrator randomly said "don't work full-time!" The students who do are the ones who suffer academically and are on probation, etc.

The distance program isn't designed to be for 'those who want to work a lot and get a degree.' It's just as tough as an on-campus program, well, maybe 95% since you don't have to drive.

But....I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!! It's an incredible experience at Creighton!! I wouldn't change going to an on-campus program if you dismissed all of my loans!

To address my typical schedule:

Start lectures at noon, until 2 - 4 pm
Dinner, etc
Study, quizzes: 8 pm - 3 am

Days that I work I don't study usually.

I usually do something for school about 6 days a week. There's always more to do, it seems!
