Creighton vs. Midwestern AZ

MWU is phenomenal. It still continues to impress me what we have going on here. We've had to pick up the dropped jaws of visiting administrators from other dental schools. They tell us things like, "Your D-3's have already done more operative in 9 months than our grads do their whole time". I felt better when I heard that---felt bad the day before that when it took me the entire morning appointment to complete 2 post/cores & 2 crown preps. We are (and have been since day #1) doing molar endo, implant placement and restoration (including cone beam CT imaging), surgical extractions, flaps, crown lengthening, complex fixed & removable, nitrous & sedation, and other treatment often reserved for either D-4's or specialty programs (or just simply not allowed!) at other dental schools. We rub shoulders with our specialists, like little mini residencies, on a daily basis.

Sometimes you might feel like our school touts the facilities so much that we're covering up something. In reality, board scores have been solid, we have received zero CODA recommendations (never before happened at a new school), the basic science curriculum is extremely solid, and the faculty couldn't be better. They ARE getting us as ready for practice as a dental grad can be straight out of school. Scary thing is...D-2's had it better than we did & D-1's even moreso. An unstoppable force that is just gaining momentum. Speaking as an insider and as unbiased as possible (which is IMpossible🙂), I think it's only a matter of time before dental applicants drive and demand this kind of dental education from the other schools.

MWU students aren't special, in and of themselves, by any means. I think that any school's students could produce what we're doing if their school adopted the same philosophy.

Hey, I don't think it's right to mislead other people. I know you're proud being part of the first class graduating from MWU, but what you say is not true. Why would other schools want to adopt your philosophy when you just started? Some other school probably shared and gave you the curriculum that you are using now. The D3s did more operative than other grads their whole time in school? Cmon man stop exaggerating and misleading people. Do you actually believe this? D3s are super slow and they're still trying to get use to the clinic and you think you're doing more than experienced seniors? You don't know how good your school is and you try to defend it because you go there. Your science faculty is good? Every school has Ph.Ds so that's not really saying much. MWU is not that special compared to any school at all. We'll know how it is in about 5 years. Don't lie and say you do all those procedures, I have a few friends that are D3s that go there and they don't agree with you. You are lying and trying to boost your school which is not right. I don't know what Creighton is like but it's been around for over a 100 years. They also have a great clinical rep. But OP don't believe everything you see. Everyone is going to be biased and say their school is awesome because they don't want to be embarrassed saying they came from a crappy school.

How do you know that what he said isn't true? Do you go to school there?

I will be attending Creighton, but I still think MWU is awesome and wouldn't be surprised if everything he says is true.

You sure you're not on the MWU waitlist?

Sorry didn't mean to be offensive. D2 here at Tufts. I'm pretty sure most of it is true but it may be a little too much exaggerating. The school barely started and he makes it sound like there are no flaws. Just didn't want him to mislead people. I apologize for coming out strong.

The D3's at MWU are not at all slow. I will say that some people are faster than others and so it is with any learning process especially when we're talking about 110 students. It is a stone cold fact that we do the procedures he mentioned all the time. If you or anyone else is gonna be in town, be sure to arrange a tour w/ admissions, I believe they could accomodate a clinic tour, where you'll see it for yourself.

I think the fact that we all have our own chairs (you and your partner who assists you and vice versa) and we schedule our own patients is really helpful. that combined with 4 solid days a week of 8-5pm chair time is a lot more experience than some other dental schools will get you.

I also have friends and many other denal schools around the country, and we share stories about the clinic environment and I can say comfortably that I would not trade our situation here at MWU for any other school's clinic in the country.

hey I just got in a couple weeks ago. I went to check out their facilities again and i love it there. Plus it is cheaper. I love the area too because it has a cozy feel to it. good luck making your decision, im sure you will pick wisely.

Hey, I'm glad to hear another person loves it there too! I'm really excited about CU! My wife and I are going to fly out there in March to check out the area and everything.

We like the living options in Omaha (Village Green Townhouses aka "little Provo") and all of the family activities in Omaha (Botanical Gardens, Zoo, Children Museums, etc.).

wait wait wait... don't tell me you are trying to sell Creighton by throwing ol' Village Green out there http://www.villagegreentownhouses.com/

I live in Omaha, and don't get me wrong... there are plenty of nice places to live here such as http://midtowncrossing.com/About/Default.aspx if you're willing to pay, but Village Green? The last time I went there to see a friend my car was hit and ran while parked...
