So I got a letter saying I'm an alternate for Creighton. This would be fine, except below that they say I need 2 quarters of GENERAL Chemistry with lab and Final official transcripts. And no mention of the Organic Chem II class I'm taking now, which I ACTUALLY need. Obviously I already had Gen Chem I and II with labs my first year of undergrad, in 1998! Do you think they made me an alternate just because they thought I hadn't completed Gen Chem?? 🙁 I'm so upset, I can't even call them till Monday.

Wow, that sucks! The only thing I can think of is that your general chemistry expired? Don't some schools want the pre-reqs to be completed in the last 7 years? I looked on Creighton's website briefly and found no mention of this. That would really be frustrating. It is probably just an oversight. I guess you will have to wait until Monday to call them and figure this one out.

I get really upset as well when I have unresolved matters at hand! 😡

do they have a cut-off for requirements or anything like that?

is this school was your first choice?

try not to let this kill your weekend.

if they do not have a cut-off for requrements i'm sure you can probably call and straighten things out and perhaps even get them to consider reevaluating your file (though i wouldn't count on it as the person you'll be talking to probably doesn't have that authority).

Thanks for the advice guys... Smilescali I thought about that too, but they never said there was a limit on prereqs. Yeah, I did want to go to this school, at least I hoped to interview to find out more about their program. This is what I think happened:

At GT we had 2 quarters of General Chemistry with labs which were the equivalent of 2 semesters, but we were given only 5 hours each as opposed to the usual 6 hours, for a total of 12. So I have a total of 10 hours for Gen Chem I and II. I noticed Creighton requires 12 quarter hours on their website. So they probably think I don't have the labs on either class or something, but the letter didn't explain. Grrrr! Is it my fault my school likes to gyp us on hours?? Alright, well I guess I can't do anything till Monday. I might even have to call GT and ask them to straighten this out with Creighton.

is there another chem class at GT that did offer the 6 hours?

i had some issues with that and some classes (i.e. calc for health care professionals was only 3 hrs and my school required 4 so i had to take the engineering one)

if they don't you may be able to dig up the course description and send it to them

Nope, the ones I took were the only ones offered and everybody took them. I probably will have to send them descriptions. GT has since converted to semesters and they converted both 5 hour classes to ONE 4 hour semester class, covering both Chem I and II! If I had taken that, this would have been more of a screwup than it already is!

Oh, no - I am so sorry to read this! I'm sure that must be what the problem is - that they think you don't have labs. I actually taught the lab and recitation portions of the freshman chemistry class for awhile when I was at GTech. While it's only 5 hours, I can definitely remember that it was a very comprehensive course! Surely once you explain all that and get something from GaTech you can get this fixed. :luck:

Thanks, since you taught those classes you obviously know what I'm talking about! It just makes me mad though, at Creighton; obviously I had to have completed the labs, how else could I have graduated as an engineer without basic freshman chem labs?!

What r ur gpas and pcat scores for those who got an interview or alternative. Just wondering!

Maybe there was a name mix up on the letters.

Apparently not... I called them and the guy said he would look through my file to see why I was an alternate, cuz they usually put notes to indicate why. But he said he couldn't find any. They really need to get their stuff together!

As for the chem issue, he said they would call me back later today. Ugh, I hate waiting!

I've been calling Creighton the past 2 days but can't get in touch with the director who "wrote" the "alternate" letter. I just got someone on the phone who said he would talk to the director but I still haven't heard anything. So I just wrote a lengthy email to the director explaining the whole chemistry thing. Do you think they will look at me badly now (like I'm being too insistent or something), since I directly emailed the director of admissions? I just wanted to go straight to the source. I'm getting really anxious because the letter also states you have to fill out an "alternate" form online by the next 14 days.

I think if anything they will see it as perserverance. Keep at it!

OMG... Creighton says because I'm "lacking" those 2 quarter hours I have to take ANOTHER chem class!! And, they won't accept biochem either. This really puts a damper on my summer plans!!!

I just don't see why they are making such a huge deal out of this. I haven't had any problems with my other schools! I'm sooo angry. Just had to rant.

You will get that acceptance to UGA in mid-April and not even have to bother with Crieghton anymore! 🙂

Creighton said my Gen Biology (w/lab) is acceptable---I had 5 quarter hours as well from a Georgia college in '97. I still need to take Bio 2 since I never needed it for my Bachelor's. I'm going to send them my transcripts so they can evaluate what I need to take in the next 1 1/2 years (I'm applying for 2007).

Are you serious... can you please tell me who you spoke to?

They are telling me I need to take an additional course to make up the 2 quarter hours = 1.33 semester hours!
