Criminal History?

Same here. I still received four Dec. 1st (or 2nd) acceptances. I'm not sure about the legal system in your state but if you are concerned look into getting your record expunged. It was pretty straight forward in my state.

Same here kind of. I was charged a few years ago for drinking under age 21, but never convicted since I did a diversion course. So when asked if I am "currently under charge or ever been convicted" I put no since technically I am not under charge at this moment and I was never convicted for the misdemeanor. I just submitted my background check so I have yet to see the results.

But on some secondaries, I was asked if I had ever been charged for anything and in that case I was honest and said yes and explained my situation. I had interviews at both schools that asked that,

If you had your cases dismissed, they will not show up on Certiphi. However, if your school does a government background check, it will likely show up if you were ever arrested.

Mind if I ask about your DAT and GPA?

I'll say this only from my experience......it's always there....I got an underage drinking almost 7 years ago, never arrested just a citation, got it removed if I was good for a year. Then when I got hired at my new job last year I got an email preventing me from working because I had a "criminal background" and had to have an appeal board allow me to be employed.

Did you apply to have it expunged or was it just supposed to be taken off your record?

Even if expunged some things will still be available for certain kinds of background checks, unfortunately.

Honesty is the hallmark of professionalism. Unequivocal honesty will not hurt you, especially if you can articulate what you have learned from the experience and how your behavior has changed.

Contact Certiphi (however they spell it).

I believe they do not report expunged records.

I disagree praxis.

While this is true, it's typically only applicable to government background checks (security clearances, etc.) and, in the case of dentistry, state licensing boards.

You disagree with honesty being an important quality in professionals?

Or that being honest about one's past won't hurt their chances of being accepted into dental school and eventually licensed?

Even if it does show up on your background check. I would think dental schools only care about convictions and not about charges that were dismissed

Unfortunately people without a complete understanding of the case / judgment may jump to conclusions about the applicant. That's why it's best if they can get the record expunged entirely. Two cases may have the same outcome, but the circumstances surrounding them may be completely different. There's no way for a school to know anything about the candidate beyond what appears in the background check.

I had an MIP as well. Didn't put that I had anything on AADSAS as they only ask for "convictions" but went ahead and emailed all the schools I interviewed at and told them about how it was dropped. Got 5 acceptances. IF you're honest and you didn't do anything too awful it will be ok. Everyone I interviewed with said it was no biggie as long as you are remorseful and it occurred a while ago.
