Hi I have alot of questions in my mind so i tried searching up forums for my unanswered questions. There are alot of threads here that may help answering my questions but since there's a lot I am now SO CONFUSED.
Please Help ME> 🙁

I am a korean studying Dentistry in Philippines.
I took pre-dent already and now I am a 1st year student (dental proper)

Last year, I searched for some stuffs and i found out international students should take the NBDE part 1 too after the 2nd year of dental proper, right? but my friend told me that this has changed. International students should have a license from the country graduated. I am confused, how can I take the NBDE part 1 after my 2nd year of dental proper? do international students take NBDE after finishing the degree with a license from the country graduated??? and for the thing i am paranoid is that philippines doesn't release license to foreigners.A BIG PROBLEM if US needs a license. Im in a critical state right now. How can I do? I dont know where and what to search for now. I am just so confused. I was planning to visit US this MAY(summer vacation-2mos) to work on someplace I know to get some job experiences, will this help in some way in order to get into university in US?? because i also heard internaional students should take the 2 yr degree program.do I really need to take the program in order to take the licensure exam? ughh.. so frustrating. i kinda feel sorry for me, wanting to be a dentist in US, but i have no idea on how to be one. sorry for the silly questions. i just need some answers 🙁 please help meeeeeeeeeee

thankssss a lot 🙂

Yes you can take NB after finishing anatomy, physiology, biochem, micro bio, path and dental anatomy and occlusion.
Read the ADA candidate guide.
Be aware that from 2010, the rules for NB eligibility requirements are changing.
To enter the International Dentist Program, you should have finished your degree and have a final degree certificate/diploma and in some cases a license

guys i'm pretty sure only US citizens and GC holders can take the NBDE part 1 after 2 yrs. (after those courses). citizens of other countries have to take it after final year.. at least that is what I know so i'm not sure if it's correct.

hello there,

as far as i know, you dont have to graduate from dentistry in the Philippines just to be able to take up NBDE1 and 2. You can take it while you're still studying. Five friends of mine were able to take NBDE1 (just after taking up the subjects needed for Part1). And as soon as they passed it, they took NBDE2 (after finishing dental subjects included in part2). You just have to get an official copy of your transcript, have it evaluated by ECE then apply for the exam through ADA and prometric. remember, finish the subjects included in the exams first so you can get your transcripts evaluated here.

also, you dont have to take the board exams in the Philippines once you graduate. just finish your degree, cause youll be needing your graduate transcript/degree diploma to apply to different US universities.
The road to US Licensure starts with:
1. NBDE1
2. NBDE2 (most universities just need NBDE1 for admission, however you still have to take part2 sooner or later)
3. then enter a minimum of 2 year international/dental program here in the US (which requires TOEFL/ NBDE1 and/or 2 /GPA=graduate transcript, no dental license from country graduated required)
4. then take NERB/WREB/or wherever state/region you wanna practice.

hope this helps. correct me if im wrong🙂

Hi tlsdbwlsk,
I think TheColorPurple gave you an accurate answer to you. I also graduated from the Phils and I'm Korean so I know about that. You don't have to worry about taking NBDE and having no lisence, but I want to tell you to get good grades in your dental school (since it's what bothers me now) and you will need to gain some work experience in US after you graduate. That is very important for us since we are from other country. Although I don't have much info coz I too am still struggling on that, I still wanted to help coz I know how you would feel since I'm going through the same situation. Hope this helps somehow..
