Does anyone know what states these guys can practice by themselves in?

AA's must always practice under the supervision of an mda in every state much like a pa must have a supervising physician to practice.an mda must be immediately available in the hospital or outpt surgical center for them to practice(which does not mean looking over their shoulder at every minute, just available in person for consults within a short period of time).
crna's can practice independently in about a dozen states that have opted out of md supervision requirements.
AA and CRNA training is equivalent but AA's have chosen to align themselves with physicians while CRNA's who practice independently don't feel the need for md supervision for whatever reason.

In some states they can, but it's a relatively rare thing.

CRNAs can practice in all 50 states independent of anesthesiologists. They must practice with a physician, however, but due to the nature of the work, this is seldomly a problem. The so called “opt-out” status on the state level has absolutely nothing to do with supervision and practice rights, but instead Medicare reimbursement. And yes, some CRNAs, albeit few, practice pain management outside of the peri-operative period.

CRNAs are competent providers. theyve been around longer than MD's and provide the same care. cost 11 times less to train and get paid 3 to 4 times less. shoot after doing research, id rather have a competent CRNA work on my surgery to have a smaller bill and the same care. imho

Well, when you pick up a book to learn about anesthesia, 9 times out of 10 , it's written by an MD, not a DO, CRNA or AA. Sumpin' to be said about that, Mick Regards, Zippy

Im confused rampa, so your saying that the first use of anesthesia at mass general with the surgical team and the anesthesiologists wasnt really an anesthesiologist but a crna? Crnas invented the anesthesia principles and were the first to use anesthesia? I have heard people argue that the first anesthesia provider was horace wells a dentist and others argue that the first was an md, but I never heard any say that the first was a crna.
