Cross Sections, CTs, and MRIs

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Netter's atlas has a bunch of cross sections that are well-labeled that you might find helpful.

BTW that site is terrific, but I think the emphasis is... plain film >> CT >>>>> MRI

Remeber most CTs are x-sections that are viewed as if your were looking at that particular x-section of the patient standing at the foot of the bed (inferior to superior). The right side of the patient will be on your left and the left side on your right. You will also view them as if the patient were lying supine (posterior down and anterior up)

Anyone have any tips on how to read cross sections, CTs, or MRIs? What about any good websites? These images are included on our gross practical so I need to learn to read them.

Get VH dissector... That's all you will need...

It's really a matter of practice.

I used to be quite possibly the worst person ever at these things. It didn't help first year I followed a doctor where we looked at numerous CT scans and he always tried to get me to figure it out.

Doctor: What structure is here?
Me: Uuuuh, the heart?
Doctor: ....we're in the pelvis.
Me: Oh.

But I've come a long way. The best way to think about this is always make sure you've got right and left straight in your head (once again, practice) and just take your time. If you have no idea, start thinking of the things it might be and the things it can't possibly be.
