hi guys,

in the upitt interview they have asked us to do a ceramo-metal prep on tooth no 14. ny idea what the fnish line for this prep should be. i asked a few people and got the foll diff answers:

1. shoulder on facial (2mm reduction) and chamfer on lingual (0.6mm reduction)

2. chamfer or bevelled shoulder on facial and on lingual (2mm reduction throughout) since they mean porcelain on all surfaces when they say ceramo-metal.

3. Shillingburg book talks about option 1 with a winged prep.

i am quite confused. 😕 😕 any inputs on this. thanks in advance.

Hi Sanju

I think since you are using PFM crown you will surely need a shoulder on the facial side to have space for the ceramic and metal ....a chamfer will not give enough space and the crown will fail...you can also use a bevel with the shoulder. as for the lingual.... if it only will have metal then a chamfer is perfect , however if the lingual side will have ceramic and metal then a shoulder with bevel is prefered again to ensure there is enough space for both . in many instances the ceramo/metal crown has a metal lingual portion ...thats why i would go with option one ...........thats just what i would go for .... all the best and good luck

hi,
i am a first time user of this site.as i was reading through ,i read about u and i also have an interview on the same day as feb 7 and i think the answer to your question would be option 1.i will be doing the same thing unless they would specifically ask us to make a ceramic (PJC) crown prep.so good luck for all of us. 👍
bye.

Hi Sanju:
I am also preparing for the same interview. I still have a similar dilemma about crown preparation. Are you working on your typhodont? How about Rubberdam, I never used it. Do we have to place it or it will be in place?Do you have some idea about it?
