ok i got a C in "intro to art" .... not a bad class but didn't take it seriously

i also got a C in animal meat class... i hated this class, pop quizzes that lowered my grade significantly

will these C's in gen-ed classes affect me significantly?

my gpa at the moment is 2.5 after my third semester counting all the C's and 1 D i got my freshman year... which sucks.

🙁

p.s. I need to start checking up which professors are easy and which classes are interesting before i sign up for them... 😡

Why not take class more serious, instead of seeing which prof's are easier.

I had 3 Cs but a 3.66 overall in the end. If you get A's later, I think its fine.

It's not too late. Lots of people do poorly at the beginning. Blaming the professor or the difficulty of the class is a bad sign. Things get tougher, and medical school will be extremely difficult and extremely boring at times. You need to get serious now; before long, it will be too late.

ok, i think i'm in deep trouble...got my grades today. A in Bio, A in Chem, A in English and a C+ in Calculus...in other words, got a 3.6 this semester (my first...i'm a freshman). will that one C screw me for med school? 😕 if we didn't have such an a$$ raping final then i could have gotten at least a B in Calc! +pissed+ i just don't understand it! gen chem is considered the weeder course in my school and not Calc! +pity+ sorry for venting

Hey NYGirl12!

One C or C+ or even a few will not kill your chances as so many people have mentioned. Just make sure getting a C is not a trend. Many people get into medical with one or more C's. Just work hard and try not to get too many C's. Good luck with everything. Remember, getting into medical school is so much about how much you want it. A few C's will not crush your dream to be a doctor, but you must get over certain things. The grand scheme of things is most important. Do well for the next 3 and a half years and you will be fine.

hey nygirl (previously from sf 😉)

thats nothing. you really dont have much to worry about. I had Cs in both my calc classes and still got into med schools.

what many will say on here is that Cs are never good but a few here and there will not be your death. a 3.6 is very good gpa. i wish i had a gpa that high in most of my semesters...

you wont be screwed....just try hard like what you have been doing and you will be just fine.

and to alleyez....take every class seriously...i accidently made the mistake of not taking a class seriously and got a poor grade. there is no such thing as an easy A. effort is required. good luck.

why is it that so many freshman are worried about one C, especially in the first year? i could understand if it was junior year, and you got nothing but C's your entire career, but one class is not going to make or break your entire future.

to the OP, don't go around saying you should find out which prof's are easy, blaming the prof for the grade that you get is a serious sign of immaturity. yea, we all get stuck with tough poops for profs, you suck it up, work your butt off, and deal. the grade you get is the grade you deserve. blaming a prof is taking the easy way out. i can blame my orgo prof for giving me a B in the class, but i can't, because i know i should have worked harder, but it was my choice to blow off a few hours of studying in order to fit in must see tv. the level of competency and difficultness of my prof is never reflected in the grades.

I think alot of people get worried about C's cuz of suspect advising. You know, you're all naive when you enter college and don't know any better, get your first C, and then someone is in your ear telling you that these are the weed-out classes and that two of their sorority sisters got C's frosh year and are now pre law, and blah blah blah...

That sure as hell happened to me. I didn't know any better either. Thankfully SDN is here so people can get good feedback and advice from people who actually know what they are talking about.

LOL, yeah I've heard the sorority sister schpeil too, don't listen to anyone-- all of that "weed out" bull**** is just bull****.

Thanks for the comfort guys. I really appreciate it. 😍
**Back to packing for my Toronto trip**

I had multiple Cs in Orgo, Gen Chem and a D in physics (2.9 undergrad science GPA before all was said and done) ... and I've still gotten into a few med schools (including a couple top-30s) ... just do well on your MCAT (33 or above) and never give up hope, and you too can live happily ever after
