Initially I was not planning on applying for early decision because I was not confident in my stats, but I thought maybe I could get some opinions on whether or not I should do it. My GPAs aren't too competitive but I feel that my GRE score and observation hour settings will strengthen my application. Other than CSULB, I am applying to Chapman and Mt. Saint Mary's. CSULB is my number 1 choice.

University: University of California, Irvine
Majors: Dance Performance and Economics
Overall GPA: 3.3ish
Pre-Req GPA: 3.65-3.69 (finishing up one more pre req)
GRE: 160 (V) 159 (Q) 4.5 (AW)

Extra-Curric: Volunteer at church nursery, UCI Dance Department Student Advisory committee, Environmental Nature Center Volunteer

Awards: Dean's Honor List, John Hollowell Composition Program Best Analysis Essay Award

Volunteer: 25 In-patient (geriatrics), 233 Outpatient (general orthopedic, oncology, pulmonary, home health, pediatrics, women's health)

Hey! I'd say you should just go for it, especially since they're your #1 choice. You're already going to apply there, and you'll have better chances if you apply early decision, rather than applying regular and trying to beat out the applications for a fewer # of remaining seats. Your cumulative GPA is the only thing lower than the averages, it looks like, and It's great that you have such a high GPA.

Just kill your final pre-req class, and you can potentially volunteer at another inpatient setting if you have any spare time. A greater diversity in observation settings can help set you apart, but you definitely don't need to volunteer more. 🙂 Best of luck!

Thanks for the advice Kuhdaytee! I definitely started considering early decision when I heard at their information session that the majority of spots are filled by applicants who applied for early decision. Hopefully the rest of my stats can make up for my low cGPA!

Hey jnl,

I agree with katie that you should def give it a shot. However, I'd email Gloria/admissions and ask for their opinion before using that option!

I went to Csulb for my undergrad and have worked with many of the dpt facuty members.
Really great program!!

Thanks for the advice atcdpt!

I wasn't sure if it would be weird to ask admissions, but I'll go ahead and shoot them an email.
