Has anyone applied into CU as an early decision applicant? If so have you heard anything back? Also I received my August PCAT results, my composite was a 47, writing was dead average. My GPA on pharmcas overall is a 3.58, and a 3.84 in science, and above both for my last 45 credit hours. I've worked as a tech, have volunteer experience and am finishing two bachelors by spring. What do people think?

Did you go to CU denver or boulder? By the way, your science gpa is excellent so I am sure you will get in.....I am going to go CU pharm school too in 2 more years....so....

I applied to CU for early decision. Applied 8/16. GPA calculated and app mailed 9/2 (i think). Got interview invite about 3 weeks ago. Will be interviewing october 13th. I think they base the interview invite almost entirely on GPA.. but they say they also consider prereq gpa too. I would say if you havent gotten an invite yet, you probably arent going to be interviewed for early decision, but with your stats you'll probably get an invite for regular decision if you are in state. This is the first year they're using the pcat so I dont know if they will have any hard cutoffs yet.
 
thanks for the reply Ross and congrats on your invite to interview. Do you currently live in Denver? I am an in state resident. I was thinking they would have to wait for my PCAT scores to assess my application which they would have received around 9/28, so we'll see. Let me know if you have any q's about denver if you don't live here. already.

About the PCAT-- They required the PCAT last year for my incoming class at CU Denver SOP. I'm still kind of curious as to what the average GPA was but if I had to guess.. low 80s?

no i'm actually out of state.. putting all my eggs in one basket for an out of state school is kind of intense but for me it's move west or else!! is the campus nearby any outdoor recreational opportunities?? and is traffic bad in that area of denver? I'm coming from a pretty small city in the midwest... hopefully it wont be too overwhelming.
 
Ross, so what made you decide to put your eggs all in one basket and only for CU? I did that last year for a non-pcat school and lived to really regret it. What I ended up doing was panicking and applying to a couple late decision schools that I didn't even want to go to. I probably would have gotten an interview at Albany COP had I applied earlier. I'm trying to stay central to west also in terms of living. Why not throw a couple other apps at least out there, I strongly encourage you to do so, also this is ED so you have plenty of time with other college apps. What type of outdoor rec do you mean? and also you can live nearby the campus there for very reasonable prices so you won't have to deal with traffic too much. Also, considering the size of Denver, traffic isn't that bad really. Denver is layed out and planned very well. Denver is a great place to live due to cost of living (you won't believe how cheap housing is here if you rent), weather, and its a major metropolitan area.
 
..also Ross what are your stats if you don't mind me asking.
 
i cant apply to any other schools because of early decision. but if i dont get in i'll probably do USN, wingate, creighton, chicago state, maybe MCP glendale.

as far as the early decision thing.. i just have been way too stressed out over all of this stuff and i would kill to get in early and not have to take any spring classes except my remaining 2 prereqs (would be taking classes for my bachelors otherwise) and also to be able to stop worrying. I chose colorado because it has new facilities, has a huge medical campus, accepts a lot of out of state students (nearly 42% out of state), and I am obsessed with mountain biking. I have a 3.98gpa, 4.00 prereq, and 99% pcat so i figured early decision was a good choice. did you apply ED ??

I have an interview on the 13th as well.

I wouldn't recommend living too close to campus. It is in a bad area. It is getting better around the campus, but it will take time. Most people I know just drive and they don't live too close to campus.

There is tons of mountain biking around Denver along the Front Range. Even more if you head up into the mountains.

No crap, the neighborhood is full of bums and thieves. The gangs are also located there. If you guys want to buy some cheap ass houses or rent one in better neighborhoods like Hampden and I-25 (close by cherry hills) or in the DU area, PM me. My mom (a licensed realtor) can hook you up a good deal.
 
Ross, yes I did apply ED thats why I started the post. I was actually contacted this week and invited to interview on Monday as well. Does anyone know anything about what the group projects will be like?
 
The group project is just to make sure that you can work in a team from what my friends told me. I can ask them for more details if you are interested. It is no big deal as long as you can speak English and have some social skills.
 
Ranger Bobb thanks, and any additional details on the gropu project would be great. Also I like the way you worded this, "no big deal as long as you can speak English and have some social skills". I currently live around Yale and Quebec near Bible Park in the southeast area of Denver, but I will most likely apt. hunt right near the campus just to avoid commuting and parking frustration.
 
pharmcas just switched my status to regular decision.. anyone else have that?? im hoping it was a mistake

yeah they lost my interview rsvp so i think they probably assumed i wasnt coming and changed pharmcas accordingly. I got the interview confirmed with them though.

really well! There were only about 20 people for the interviews. I was expecting more but they said this was the first time they had done early decision. The interview was easy, the essay was easy, and the group project was easy. The interview consisted of questions that were on the sdn feedback page and was extremely low stress. I'm not really sure how they weed people out at this point... the student who led the tour gave the impression that ED admission was practically guaranteed if you had gotten an interview and didnt come across as being a *****. the stress from waiting is killing me!! only 9 days left maximum but i keep praying every morning that this is the day the committee meets. How long can it take them to review 20 applications!??


Also - I found out U colorado is now considering their P1 year to be graduate for financial aid purposes - so you can now use grad plus loans.

I also thought the interviews went really well. I feel as though I performed very well and was entirely prepared for every phase of the inerview process. I haven't heard back yet but I was wondering in general how much weight the interview itself carries, just because I'm very eager to find out. Mannnn... I just want to go to this school. They have it all figured out, the faculty is exactly what I want to be working with. All the students seemed to be handling their courseloads well that I saw (i.e. they didn't look haggered), the curriculum, the facilities it was all ideal! God I only want to go here 🙂. Thanks for the curiosiy Pat..
 
Glad to hear your interviews went well. I saw a bunch of suits in the hallway that day.. P1 year is not too bad once you get the hang of the flow. Good luck anyhow and hope you two hear back soon. 🙂
 
Wow, I wasn't expecting this. That is good that everyone thinks that the Anschutz medical campus next to my school is excellent. Also, thank you ross for saying that the feedback sdn page is actually true and will be useful for my interview in one to two years from now.

Anyways, I hope you all get in!:luck:
 
Ross you heard anything back from CU yet? I didn't expect to become this anxious.
 
nothing... i did expect to be anxious, however.
 
I interviewed there as well last Monday. SDN interview feedback is pretty accurate. I haven't heard if I got in, but I have less than 48 hours to the deadline (and counting by the second :s). It's really nerve-wracking of late, and I'm trying to cram biochem in the meantime. Good luck to everyone. The group seemed pretty together and I could see us all making it for next year.
 
Hi Storm, I agree and thats one of the reasons I like CU, the people all see easy going and likeable. Yes, I am eager to find out as well. Considering how we know that the decisions have to be made by this Friday I'm still surprised how the anxiousness has crept up on me.

Do you know anything about how their deciding which of us 20 gets in really. Considering we were ED that shows were all very interested in this program in particular.
 
you guys or gals should definitely post here as soon as you find out!. i too am literally counting the minutes.

I don't know about how they choose who gets in or not. I can't imagine with only 20 invited to interview for ED that it can be that challenging. After all, we're all qualified enough to be there. And with 160+ seats available, 20 seats will still leave a lot of applications. Personally, I like the idea of ED cause then I can plan everything else with time to spare.
P.S. I will post my acceptance (if I get it) as soon as I'm done calling the top 20 people on my list who want me to get accepted.
 
Thats a good point about seat numbers. I completely agree with you about resolving the application process now. I promise to post immediately when I find out. I will say that it seemed as though they did set a very casual tone for us at the ED interview. Its nice to see people as excited as I am.

I thought it says on the pharmcas website

"PharmCAS institutions will announce early decisions as soon as possible, but no later than October 24."
 
Yeah, but I am not sure if they post on PharmCAS. This is my first time applying so I have no prior experience. CU emailed us to let us know about our acceptance.

PharmCAS actually told me I was rejected before my interview, but Beverly (the contact lady at CU) told me it was not true, and now it says nothing. If you haven't heard from them you should contact them.

My stats are not the greatest, but here they are:

GPA: 2.62 (cumulative); last 2 years: 3.4-3.5
Pre-reqs: Not sure, but likely between 2.7-3.0
PCAT: 1st time: 94th percentile (average), 2nd time: 84th percentile (and I was 2 years out of school!)🙂
Saint Mary's University - Bachelor of Science (Biology)
8+ years as a Pharmacy Tech (6 in community, 2+ in hospital)

Where in PharmCAS did you see that? I can't for the life of me find anything about that on PharmCAS ><

I'd say your stats are in the "typical" range of UCDHSC SOP. Having a solid GPA especially your last couple of years and a good PCAT are important. Some of the stuff like experience only comes into play during the interview process (not that experience is required, I didn't have any).

You didn't have any experience? not even over the summer? your not even PTCB certified?
 
Here are my stats:

GPA: 3.20
Pre-reqs: 3.25
PCAT: 96%
Degree in Chemistry from CU Boulder

No pharmacy experience, but I have done lots of other things that look really good on applications.
