Cube Counting: Cubes cemented by corners

I am sure this question has been brought up many times already, but here we go!

For Cube counting on the DAT:

Can cubes be cemented together by ONLY their corners?

not sure what that means...but a cube can not "float". it either has a base to sit on, or you're looking at it wrong

Floating cubes are different. He's referring to connections like this:

..l_l

That's if you're looking at the cubes from directly above, and I'm pretty sure this is NOT allowable. (the .'s are just for spacing)

CDP has a several figures where they are connected by corners alone.

would really like an answer to this. does ada say anything?

I have been in contact with Neil over at CDP. I believe I know the problem you are referring to because I contacted them about the same issue. He insists that cubes cannot be connected by a corner but must be connected by a side. I disagree because nowhere in the official ADA rules (listed at the beginning of the cube counting section of the DAT) does it say how cubes are connected. It does say that the cubes are "cemented together", from which the test taker could assume that all cubes are connected by a side. I think it is too ambiguous though.

so this would be 15 cubes according to neil at CDP

not sure if the original poster is accurate, but i think he implies that the solution (made by CDP) has it as 14 cubes.

Just thought I would let you guys now that on my actual DAT I did have 1 figure that had cubes connected only by the corners. It wasn't that hard just took me a second to realized that its possible.

i think they can be...but i also have a question

i no the rules said that cubes that are out of sight do not exist...but what if the cube that is out of sight if left out would mean that there are two separate towers of cubes and the only way to make all the cubes attach to each other is to include that one cube that you cant see ?
