Hey guys,

I'm taking the DAT on 1/22 in Culver City and I was hoping for some insight into what the testing center is like since I won't be able to visit beforehand. Do they provide headphones to muffle the sound? How are the dry erase markers? How is the scratch paper? Is the room too cold or too hot? Anything else I should know?

Thanks a billion! 🙂

These centers vary from place to place regarding the environment's temperature. I suggest dressing up in layers. I haven't taken the test yet, but I know a few people that have. I'm told that the markers weren't really that good, but then again, then also varies. You'll be given the option to wear headphones and earplugs. And you won't be given scratch paper. Just remember to bring in two IDs. That's all I know and can tell you. Good luck :luck:

I am scheduled to take my dat there too in march.
Please let us know what it's like there after you take the test.

Good luck

So, as promised, here is the lowdown on the Culver City center:

1) Get there early!!! It was SOOO busy yesterday. I was glad that I got there a half hour early, otherwise they would not have been able to check me in on time.

2) Dress in layers that are easy to put on/take off. I was wearing sweats, uggs, a long-sleeved shirt with a tank top underneath and a zip-up hoodie and I still got chilly in the last two sections.

3) Bring a snack and a drink with electrolytes for the break to boost your energy.

4) Ask for ear plugs. They are constantly bringing people in and out of the testing room because of the different tests people are taking. Ear plugs definitely help drown out the sound of people walking in/out.

5) Scratch paper and markers: Scratch paper is a blue laminated piece of graph paper, with which you get two thin black expo markers and a white board eraser. My markers worked great, like they were brand new. Test yours at the beginning during the tutorial and if they are dry, raise your hand to ask for new ones - they have tons. My eraser was kind of dirty so it smudged my scratch paper a little bit, but not to the point that I couldn't use it. Same thing goes here though, if you try it and it makes your scratch paper unusable, ask for a new one.

6) Mid-exam break: If you have to use the restroom during the break, do so first thing. The Culver City center has their restroom outside the building and you need a key from the front desk to access it. They only have two keys for each sex, so sometimes they are both taken...but if you try to use it at the very beginning, then you should have plenty of time to go and come back to refuel.

That's about it! If you all have any more questions, feel free to ask. Otherwise, good luck!!! Be confident and rock it! 🙂
