Hello Sdn,
Last week, I came across this article:
Germany to Social Networks: Delete Hate Speech Faster or Face Fines
After reading it my first thought was, This is wrong! Ppl should be able to say whatever they want: freedom of speech. In fact, this is written about in Article 19 in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, say what you want! It's a human right to say how you feel, just say it! However, the more I thought of it, I thought this means the government wants money because a 54 million dollar fine for not deleting something quick enough seems absurd. C'mon, we know 54 million is probably only a drop in the ocean for a company like Facebook, but still 54 million is a lot of money. Next, I remember talking about the Germany government with a German friend. The germany government is different than the US because they have free college for everyone, and I don't think the gap is as big for the rich and the poor like in the US. So I changed the way I though of it a little bit because that fits their government. Personally, I like the way it is in the US and I think the opportunities are still there like anyone could make it. Last, if you don't work, then you shouldn't eat.
What do you think? There isn't a right or wrong answer for this because it's a matter of opinion. Do you like the way it is now? Has hate speech affected you? what do you think of freedom of speech?
