Greetings All,

I just graduated from a city college in New York with a degree in Biochemistry and ended up with a cumulative GPA of 3.386. I really want to pursue a M.D./Ph.D. I started applying for research position and just got accepted to do research at a top medical institution, which hopefully I might be able to get a publication out of, if I do a lot of contribution. I recently decided to apply for the Mount Sinai PM Masters in Biomedical research, but am kinda worried that they might not consider me because of my low GPA.

Applications are invited from students have at least a 3.5 undergraduate grade point average [GPA], and who have achieved or can reasonably be expected to achieve a 34 on the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT).

I really want to get accepted into the program. Applications are accepted until june of next year, so I have 1 year to strengthen my application. I will study my ass off for the MCAT and try really hard to get above a 35 and work really hard in my research projects. Do you guys think I still have a chance in getting into the program? Will they look at my entire application or just see my GPA and not consider me at all?

Of course you should apply; your chances have got to be greater than the 0% that will obtain if you don't even try. You seem to be within spitting distance of their GPA goal and numbers aren't everything. Try to get in touch with the program director and express your interest directly. The point is that if you can become a known quantity, that covers a multitude of sins.
