Hey, so I just finished 2 yrs of undergrad at Creighton and was originally on the pre-med track. But things changed and to make a long story short, I decided that I want to work with medicine and in healthcare but not spend another 8+ years in school due to my goals for my personal life (marriage/children/etc). I don't have EXCELLENT grades, but pretty good, I have some community service, and I plan on finding a Ph.Tech job soon. I am looking at pharmacy, I am have all but 2 reqs. done, and I don't have to take the PCAT if applying to Creighton. I have a couple questions for people familiar with the Creighton requirements, do they have a preference for CU students over other students? How many schools should I apply to? Is it too late to switch now? What made you all decide on pharmacy? If anyone can answer any of my questions, it would be greatly appreciated.

Creighton has a guaranteed admissions policy if you meet certain criteria, one of them being a 3.5 GPA in your undergraduate work the year you apply. I could post some more information, but I don't have the Creighton Pharmacy Bulletin on me right now.🙂 If you are still around Creighton right now, then go to the Admissions office and see if you can get your hands on a Bulletin that will detail your requirements further. Here is the information from their website if you missed it:

Creighton Preference
The Pharmacy Admission Committee has a strong preference for Creighton undergraduate students who complete the majority of their undergraduate coursework at Creighton, including all science and math prerequisites. All Creighton undergraduate students who have achieved a minimum overall quality point average (QPA) of 3.25 at the end of the semester in which the student applies will be guaranteed an interview.

Guaranteed Admission Policy

Creighton students who began undergraduate studies prior to and including fall 2006 who meet the following criteria will be granted admission to the Doctor of Pharmacy program.
Each student must:
  1. Be enrolled and complete all pre-pharmacy requirements (see above) at Creighton University prior to entry into the program. Courses taken for college credit (e.g., Advanced Placement) prior to high school graduation will not result in ineligibility.
  2. Take at least one biology and organic chemistry course concurrently during the same semester.
  3. Complete a minimum of 14 semester hours each semester.
  4. Have achieved a minimum overall quality point average (QPA) of 3.5 at the end of the semester in which the student applies.
  5. Complete a successful interview.
  6. Submit a completed online application to the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions Admission Office by December 1 of the academic year prior to enrollment in the professional program.
  7. In the event an applicant is found to have violated the University Code of Conduct, or has committed an unlawful act, the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions reserves the right to withdraw the applicant from the guaranteed admission process.
Students unable to meet one or more of the above criteria are eligible, and encouraged to apply, for admission through the standard admission procedure.

That's about it in terms of preference towards Creighton students as Creighton is not a traditional 0+6 school that takes very few transfers. Creighton is open for anyone...like me.😉 They go through numerous interview sessions and probably evaluates around 800 non-Creighton applications while admitting a bunch of people.

Since Creighton's requirements aren't organized in a track, it isn't too late to switch. You just have to follow the guidelines above, don't half-ass the interview, and you're in!

Thanks omnione! Creighton's reqs. for their undergrads is kind of strange. I talked to the admissions and they say the "guaranteed" policy is no longer "guaranteed" starting this year on, due to the increase of competitive applicants, I guess. Oh well, I've gotta work on getting my gpa up and more experience and of course do well in the interview. I really want to just stay at CU 🙂

That makes sense as most of the people at my interview weren't from Creighton. I still think that you have an edge being from Creighton, but it sounds to me that the interview will be less of a formality and the adcoms will look at your record more closely.
