Hey there,

My sister is deciding between either UCLA and HSDM so we had a few questions regarding living there.

1) I know housing is guaranteed for the first year; is it also guaranteed for the remaining years? Betsy said it's not guaranteed, but it "shouldn't be a problem if you want to stay."

2) Does anyone really stay for the four years? We checked the apartment website and it looks like a hassle to commute/take public transport to school every day...is it?

3) Anyone currently staying in Vanderbilt Hall right now? How is it? Too crowded? Too noisy? How are the common bathroom and common kitchen areas? We like that it's so close to the school, but my sister is used to living in an apartment and not sharing the kitchen & bathroom with too many people.

4) Are there any places to buy groceries around there? When we visited, all we found was the Trader Joes, which was, needless to say, a short hike from the HSDM building, especially at night.

5) How are the on-campus cafeterias/cafes? We looked at the hours of operation and it doesn't look like they're open late at all! 8:00pm at the latest for one of the locations? Or did we look at the wrong page?

Thanks for everyone's help...I'm sure more questions will pop up soon.

Be prepared to hear some Harvard bashing, LOL.

Housing is guaranteed for the first two years which cost ~7000$ (includes utilities, so its pretty cheap). Since many first year opt to stay off campus, so they have space for students who want stay there for all the four years.

2) Does anyone really stay for the four years? We checked the apartment website and it looks like a hassle to commute/take public transport to school every day...is it?

Yes, people stay there for four years. Its not a hassle to commute/use public transportation. There are buses and Green line within 2-3 mins of walk.

I have stayed there for a night. Its good and compared to the price in Boston, its awesome. Its very quiet and each gets a single room.
Each floor has two bathrooms and have 18 students (am not sure though).
This is divided into two wings, each has 9 students, a bathroom and a kitchen. Each student gets a shelf in the bathroom. Kitchen seemed fine although i am planning to have my own fridge.

Around 9ish, the LMA is pretty quiet and most of the stores are closed. Although if you walk towards the Brookline avenue, then there are plenty of stores, restaurants and fast food centers. There is a Galleria mall also with food court in it. And brookline avenue area is pretty busy even later.

This one, i dont have much idea. But the food is good at the two cafes. One is right across the first year classroom and Harvard students get discount from these cafes.

Keep em posted. I tried to answer whatever i have noticed during my few visits.

What is the social life like? Say if you are a single male dental student from the West coast. Is Harvard a good place, or do the girls have sticks up their asses? 🙂

This post is a FAIL.

Anyone else want to offer a valuable opinion rather than asking if HSDM girls are easy?

If they're anything like what you just posted, than I can probably safely assume the answer is yes. Stick up ass means stuck up... it has nothing to do with how easy girls are. Maybe I should have opened my own thread asking that question, but geez louise, I didn't know you could fail at posting!

wouldn't a failed post not be a post at all therefor no one could say it was a failed post because there wouldn't be a post. only the person that failed would know it was a failed post.

imma go memorize the brachial plexus now.
