i was just prepping for my interview next week and i started thinking about the problems that are facing dentistry today. i know there is the threat of falling under managed care. are there other issues that i should be knowledgeable about?

people don't floss. that's a big one.

1-Don't forget about the fact that dentistry has the highest rate of suicide.:scared:
2-You will graduate with at least $200K debth:scared:
3-you will be making $50k a year for the first 5 yrs of your practice until you find your customers:scared:
4-you need at least $300K to start your own business
5-the most important issue is that there will be dentists with bachelor's degree working, and making as much as you, just like other countries.
6-last but not least dentistry is all about STESSSSSSSSSS:scared:
7- you will be a second class doctor:meanie:
if you don't like my comments, you can go to (you know where)...

But she's right, I'll be among those with the "higghest" rate of suicide, high "debth" and VERY high "stess...". Or maybe someone decided to troll after schools rejected her. I mean, she ain't the sharpest tool in the shed. But then again, that may just be harsh of me to say. A tool's a tool, and she's a tool none-the-less.

insurance doesn't pay for implants, but they do for bridges. why destroy the 2 adjacent teeth when they are perfectly healthy to save 1000 dollars? that's a problem in my book.

I believe NY Insurance will now cover Implants.

Anyone know much about how socialized med might/will affect dentistry? I've searched online but it's hard to know if the article is politically bias or not.

It probably won't happen for quite some time...they will have enough trouble finding money to pay for socialized medicine, let alone dental care (which is considered to be more on the cosmetic side)...

Although it is a constant threat, it is unlikely (in my opinion) that it will be implemented soon.

Think about it this way, most health insurance plans do not cover dental services unless they threaten systemic health. Until the lines are redrawn, dentistry will be unjustly thought of as a luxury. If private insurance cannot see the connections, how can the government? Uncle Sam will not be holding a handpiece anytime soon.
