I'm seriously considering the PhD then MD route instead of MSTP, simply because my GPA might not cut it for top MSTP programs, and it might be easier to get into a great MD program coming from a good/great PhD program.

Anyway, are you going to have a lag year after grad school to interview, or will you be applying in your final year of grad school? It'd be nice not to have a lag year, but I wouldn't be able to put the PhD down on the AMCAS...

Just curious if anyone has input.

Treg, though I'm an undergrad, I'm thinking about taking your route. I have a lot of time this summer, so if you want the impression of an undergrad who wants MD/PhD, feel free to PM me.

Hi,

I applied this past year to a handful of schools as a 4th year grad student, but I knew going in that I would only be able to attend my grad school's med school if I got in, as an MD/PhD student. I have a deferred admission at another Canadian school right now, so I will for sure be in med next year. As for my grad school's med school, I am still in the running but losing hope. Thus, I am preparing to reapply this cycle with a new MCAT (37R: 12-PS, 11-VR, 14-BS). I will be applying during my final year of my PhD.

I need to write something up for people considering my route for the FAQs portion of this page, since a lot of people PM me about it. Maybe, when I am waiting for secondaries this summer, I will put something together.

Also, anyone else that wants to help with my new PS, keep the PMs coming 🙂
