Hello-

I've been accepted to the SUNY Optometry program, but I am disheartened b/c the student that gave me the tour of the school and was the "ambassador" for the program, was not enthusiastic about it all. Why would they let someone like that represent the program? She said it is very depressing, most of the students are pretty miserable, the course load is unbearable, and it takes a lot to do well. (I'm not in Opt. school yet, but I understand that all health prof schools are challenging)

So, if you don't mind sharing your experiences about how manageable the classes are, how accessible the faculty is, if the majority of students are able to pass the classes, what the grading curves are like, if the student body creates a sense of community, or is to each his own?

Thank you and you are welcome to PM if you prefer.

I've actually also been accepted to SUNY and my guide was the complete opposite. She was very enthusiastic and thorough. The students we talked to all said that SUNY is great and I just got really excited about going there.

This is very interesting that you had a different experience of the school. I wonder what other people have to say.

i recently got accepted into suny and my tour guide was enthusiastic as well. he said that the schoolwork was harder than undergrad, but nothing about being unbearable. i think you were just unfortunate...don't let it get you down! 🙂

I've actually been accepted to SUNY as well and I was wondering if any current SUNY student can comment on:
1. Cost of living: is the exra cost, commute, inconveniences (laundry, etc) worth it going to a school in NYC? Do you even get to enjoy the city at all, or are you just studying most of the time anyway?

2. Workload: How many hours do you think you sutdy per day, week, weekend? Do you have time to eat, work out, have a hobby, go out or have fun?

Thanks,
Elaine

Hey!

It really stinks to hear that you had a bad initial experience. I can promise you that your tour guides representation is not one of SUNY but instead of some sort of frustration that the tour guide had with herself/himself.

Don't take it to heart- instead lets talk and I will give you the real deal about what SUNY is like. I am currently a 2nd year student.

Lets talk, just PM me and I would be more then happy to help you out. 👍

Hey I've lived in NYC for my whole life so PM me or just ask if you have any questions about city life 🙂

I've had a love-hate relationship with the city of the past few years but after I turned 21 the city really got fun. Also I travel outside the city a lot so its a very good way of getting away from the crowds. I've basically been provided with cheap/good education my whole life (including SUNY next few years) so yea I enjoy being here.
