I thought it would be helpful to have a thread for current topics in healthcare that would be useful to be familiar with going into an interview. If anything comes to mind, feel free to post it.

To start off, the opioid crisis and euthanasia seem to be two hot topics right now.

What else?

-single payer system
-Medicare, medicade
-refugee crisis
-overprescription for things like ADD, anxiety etc.
-embryonic stem cells (maybe??)

Abortion
Medicare for all vs single payer.
Is healthcare a right?
Do juveniles have a right to medical privacy?
dealing with clinical evidence that shows a patient or their spouse has committed adultery
Do we have a doctor shortage?
Should gov't be involved in health care?
The role of genetic engineering...ethical or not?

This might be a dumb question, but how do you folks stay up to date with the issues? Do you subsrcibe to a news website or occasionally look for them? As a person who does not read the newspaper, I am thinking I should start doing that.
Read about them before interview.

New England Journal of Medicine is only $60 a year for students.

Also, become a medical lab manager and you will randomly receive about 3 journals a month ranging from “Biotheraputics quarterly” to “The journal of modern urology.” You won’t want these journals, but some of it is interesting.

I would recommend just sticking with NEJM lol
