UWSOD stated their entire 4-year, quarter-system curriculum spans 47 months. Could any current UWSOD students weigh in on their experience? Do you enjoy it, especially if you come from a semester system? Is there enough of a break in between the quarters? 47 of 48 months sounds kind of too much, no?
Aside from that. How is your experience at UW? Is the Pacific Northwest enjoyable?

Regardless of where you go, dental school isn’t undergrad. Expect a significantly heavier workload. Be prepared to treat it as a full-time job. The time for grown-upping begins now.

Also, if you’re not a resident of WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, or Idaho), don’t expect an interview invite, let alone an acceptance.

Roger that, Big Hoss. I was not aware that UoW was regionally selective. Checking my expectation
Btw, were you enlisted to HPSP? I'm running into a problem figuring out how conditional release works so I can pick up the HPSP commission.
Enlisted Army Active Duty. ETS APR 2025, applying for Entry Year 2025

Belay my last, clearly you’ve done plenty of grown-upping. Probably too much, in fact.

I was not prior service, so I can’t help out on that transition from enlisted to officer. With all things military, I expect there’s a mountain of paperwork and at a bare minimum a half dozen signatures needed.

Do you still have GI Bill eligibility you could use for dental school? If so, definitely look at the HSCP through the Navy. Your time in dental school would count towards time in service for retirement.

No worries.

I've read posts about supportive CoC regarding this process, but most are not. Unfortunately, I do not have that support, but I will keep trying. Worst case scenario, the GI Bill is my backup to pay for D1 and then apply for 3 years HPSP.

I have not heard of HSCP. I will look into that.

Best of luck!

In the HSCP (only offered by the Navy), you’re paid as an active duty E6 (I think). For someone who’s not prior service, you’d then use your income to pay your tuition yourself. If you’re not prior service, you can’t use GI Bill benefits concurrently. However, if you’re prior service you can use your GI Bill. So, if you ended up at a state school, your GI Bill would cover most/all of your schooling and you’d be able to pocket that E6 pay. If you don’t have prior service, the HSCP is generally inferior to the HPSP. Since you’re technically active duty throughout dental school on the HSCP, it counts towards retirement. Double check all this with a recruiter in case there have been recent changes.

You might find some good info over in the military dentistry sub-forum:

I think that will depend on your stats and ECs. I was accepted there and have absolutely zero ties to the region.

Current UWSOD student here. Our class does have a handful of OOS students (maybe like 5?). Our quarter system breaks are as follows:
4 weeks off after summer (near end of August to near end of September)
2 weeks off for end of year holiday
a week off for the other two

I grew up in the PNW so I don't mind the rain.
The workload is not bad.
