I've been looking at apartments and complexes around the area and would like any advice as to where current students are living and what they like/dislike about the area. Any recommendations/comments would be great!

Thank you.

I live at the Crossing and absolutely love it. It's right across the street from VCOM, so I always walk to school. They're kinda expensive, but they're totally worth it. Congrats on being accepted!!!

how expensive is expensive? I thought I heard that one of the places right across from VCOM were around 300-350 which isnt too bad.

I have a two bedroom which is $830 a month. A one bedroom is around $650.
Knollwood, which is the bigger complex next to the Crossing, is about $50 or so more a month.

If you dont mind crappy cabinets and no washer or dryer unless you go w/ a 3 bedroom, ridgewood is 550 for a 2 bedroom.

Hey I heard from professor sasquatch their was some apartments for 300 a month INSIDE VCOM, next to his office on the 4th floor. JK.

Man I wish we had your prices here in FL, 1100 and up for a 2br/2bth... I would kill for a 800 a month

I live at Cedarfield apartments and I really like it. It is 2 miles from school, 5 min drive. It is also pretty quiet there with mostly professionals and graduate students living there. My rent for a 2 bedroom 2 full bath with a washer and dryer in the unity is $750.

I heard there was a hold list for students wanting to live at the Crossing or Knollwood (I think that's what it's called).

I haven't actually called yet.

Do you VCOM-ers suggest living alone or with a roommate? I normally like to be alone, but it's going to be completely different going to DO school.

I have an opening for a roomate at my apartment for 300/month. The roomate must be female and be able to cook, clean, and run small errands upon request.

Living now is no different than living before. If you prefer to live alone, it'll probably be what's best for you once you get to school. Not having roomates can remove a major source of stress--if you're an at-home studier, and your roomate makes that difficult, you'll find all kinds of problems as the year progresses. On the other hand, a good roomate can help keep you in line, and take care of some basic things while you're off studying (and, it's generally cheaper to have a roomate).

There is a group of students in my class that live in Christiansburg too, most of us live on the same street in Oak Tree Townhomes. Christiansburg is next to Blacksburg...about 7 min. from VCOM. Of course there are some expense differences between renting and buying, but if you are married or have a roomie already or just have a lot of money, buying a house is a great investment.

You can live in Blacksburg or Christiansburg. Cburg tends to be a bit cheaper since it is not right next to Va Tech.

Make sure if you want a quieter place to look into graduate/professional housing. Most apartment places have quiter buildings away from the rowdy undergrads.

The 2009 people may start looking for subletters if they have gotten their rotations away from the area.

Good luck and welcome to the VCOM family👍

Any opinions on Foxridge graduate/professional housing?

Foxridge graduate/professional is still surrounded by foxridge undergrads. Your building itself may be undergrad-free, but the surrounding area most certainly is not. Several of my classmates lived there first year, then about half of them moved at the end of the year. Draw from that what you will.
