Since I've been on here I've read a lot about how the market is saturated and how it's getting harder and harder to get a job. I have an average GPA, yet to take the PCAT, and have little experience right now (currently fixing that) and fear that in the overly saturated market this will not be enough to land a solid job or get into the pharmacy school I want. Basically, the only reason I haven't wavered away from pharmacy is because I can't think of another health profession I would like as much.

I'm currently a Nutrition Science major with 1 1/2 years of undergrad left. What other options are there if I want to keep my major, make a good salary and still be in the health field?

Yea the market may be saturated, but it's not like you're gonna graduate and never get a job for the rest of your life lol. Eventually you will get a job. Yes, the baby boomers are retiring in waves as well as the requirement for everyone to carry insurance. When ppl have insurance they are more likely to use it. Also, notice the ppl who are complaining about the lack of jobs aren't exactly changing careers or dropping out. If you really want to be in pharmacy then stick with it. Drugs aren't going anywhere. 🙂

Have you considered becoming a dietician? PT and OT are apparently pretty solid choices right now too.

You are right about the job market. Also, the cost of entire program is very expensive. So I advise you to explore other professions before making your final decision. Once you are in pharmacy school, there is no way back.

I have only briefly looked into becoming a dietitian, mainly because I've always had my eyes on Pharmacy and nothing else. I know the pay isn't great and I've heard PT is VERY competitive and the job market isn't worth going to school more only to earn an average salary.

Hi. I grad with a bs nutrition, dietetic, and hospitality degree of dec 2012. Now I'm currently working as a pharm tech and planning to take pcat soon because like you I've been eyeing on pharmacy school. It is very true, I've considered going for Ms Rd but when looking at the average salary...it's not worth it. I'm still debating too.. Should I take the risks of having a huge debt and go to pharm school or just stay as a pharm tech and earn not even 20,000 a year?? (Part time) it's very hard to decide. I find job offers as a nutritionist out of town and I'm thinking its not worth it because salary is too low.

it is very sad to see people choosing their career by flow of job market or pay.
I know this sounds little silly, but find what you like first.
Yes, money is a huge factor, but it definitely is not everything for your life.
