This thread is for those interested in the Creighton School of Medicine post-bacc (pre-medical) program! Didn't see a thread so decided to make one...
link: http://www.creighton.edu/health/hsmaca/prepostbac/index.php

I just received an interview invitation and was wondering how many others have? Are there any current or pre-medical post-bacc CUSOM students out there in SDN land that can offer any advice or insight on the program? 🙂

I have received an interview invite for the program also, and I've been dying to talk to someone about it who knows what it means. Thanks for opening up this thread.

I actually graduated from Creighton University as an undergraduate (majored in Biology), and I grew close to the HS-MACA staff and some of the students from previous years in the program, and let me tell you, the school is AWESOME. Everything: the academics, the camaraderie among students, the support from the staff and the general atmosphere (both academic and social). It's just a great place to be. I look back fondly on my undergraduate years and would love to go to CUSOM, but before I get there, the Post-Bac program will be an incredible experience..IF I'm chosen as a participant (fingers crossed!).

Well, as far as I have a friend who is currently a Pre-Dental Post-Bac student (who also graduated from Creighton as an undergrad) and he just passed the DAT. He tells me that the program is amazing and that he's so happy to be there. He just recently gave me some advice about the interview via Facebook. As far as just information about the program, I have a brochure that I picked up before I graduated and there's the website, which is helpful for the most part. Calling the HS-MACA office and asking questions seems like the best way to go.

I did apply to the program. so far no news. good luck t you two!

Thanks! I'm already getting excited about the interview, but still shopping for flights, any tips about flying there (coming from DC)?... I've never been anywhere near Nebraska but everything about Creighton sounds great. Feeling very welcome as well with the emails about the student host and a pre-interview dinner with the current students 🙂 Are you going to stay with a student host? Is the airport really only 10 minutes away? From one email, I got the impression that there are 16 people going to interviews so far. Does anyone know how the process works after the interview? Do they make a waitlist?

It's an incredible school.

I actually have a few friends that I've decided to stay with, but I would take advantage of the host program. The price beats a hotel room price any day, and you get to really talk with a student in the program on a one-on-one basis.

I'm not sure about the airport though. Creighton University is in downtown Omaha, and I'm assuming that's where the airport is, or a little outside of it at least. And yes, I believe that the airport is 10 minutes away from Creighton. But I'm not sure who they will set you up with for the Host Program (if you decide to do it) and how far they stay from the airport. I'm sure that your host would be more than happy to pick you up and so forth if you need. My experiences with past Post-Bac students tells me that they're nice people who are more than willing to help in any way they can.

Well, this is what it says on the HS-MACA website:

Interviews

All applications will be reviewed for interview after the application deadline of January 14, 2011. Applicants selected to receive an interview will receive an interview invitation via email. Interviews require a full day’s commitment on the part of the candidate. Details about the interview will be contained in the email invitation.

Admissions Decisions

After the completion of all interviews, seven participants and a list of alternates will be selected. Selected participants will be notified by letter of their acceptance. The remaining applicants will be sent a letter of rejection, or placement on the alternate list.

So there is an alternate list after all of the interviews have been completed. About the actual interviews, the email I got when I confirmed my invitation said that there were 4 interviews total, for about 15-30 minutes each. As far as that, I have no clue.

Any good news guys, inteview experiance and so forth. are the interviews done? any body?

Wow this program takes a LONG time to deliberate... its already been two months for me, anyone hear anything yet as far as acceptance? Anyone know the start date?

The interview was amazing! I had a really great time talking with the students, who were so nice and considerate. There were 4 interviews and I didn't really nervous at all.

I have actually been accepted into the program. I think the start date is early June.

My opinion of the interviews:
The interviews went great. I'd never been to Nebraska before but I had a great impression of the campus and surrounding area. Staying with a host the day before and meeting both some current and old post-baccs at the dinner the night before was very helpful... their advice helped me prepare for the interviews. There were 4 interviews for everyone and it was actually really great to talk with the other applicants between interviews
...but both from the interviews and what the old post-baccs said I walked away feeling like their decision after interviews are over is based mainly on finding a good fit for the school and the style of the program (my impression: 7-14 people studying hard in class and out of class mostly together all day everyday for a year, supporting one another, etc. ) The students who
So its seems you gotta work well in a group and quite a few of the interview questions related to this
...it was almost an equal split of guys and gals at the interviews and I'm guessing they are aiming for a similar ratio for those in the program too

Well, I loved the program and the school and in general but I haven't heard back - ForeverErica, CONGRATS! how did you receive notice of acceptance? email, phone call or mail? I just would like to know their decision, whatever it may be

Thank you so much! I received notice via phone call. It was so unexpected. I was just sitting on the couch after coming home from work, watching TV with my family and I got the call. It was just so good to KNOW either way, after months and months of waiting since July, when I submitted my AMCAS application.

I sincerely hope that you hear back soon. Waiting is the worst part. Best of luck to you.

Hey! I hope all is well with you!

I was wondering what the statistics are for this program(GPA, mcat, etc) because i did a lot of research and I really love this program, but couldnt find much. Unfortunately, my science GPA is a 2.6, cumulative a 2.83, and nonscience a 3.4. I have a lot of extracurriculars but what should I do to increase my competitiveness for the program or should I just apply? Thank you all so much!
