A story in a secondary uses quotations from someone else, and in the quote they are cussing. It's pretty vital to have it for the emphasis of the story. It is s-h-i-t and it comes up twice in the whole essay. Any recommendations on whether to keep it or not?

I'd definitely remove it...there's plenty of more acceptable replacement expressions for the term.

Narrative integrity is most flexible! 😀

Doesn't matter if it's a quote or literally any other reason. NEVER cuss in an application or interview. Easiest way to get your application tossed in the trash.
Yeah haha I figured, just wanted to make sure. I tossed it out and re-worded it to give the same idea without the actual word

Lol.

Adcom: Let's make sure this young person can be professional for the duration of their career.

You before being offered an interview: F?$& that!

I disagree. I think that quoting someone in an essay may work well in an essay and wouldn't cause me to toss the application. I could imagine someone saying, The old vet said, "You don't know s-h-i-t, boy." and then later in the story the same guy sees the growth in the volunteer and says, "You know your s-h-i-t." To me that would be a good story telling technique. YMMV... if you can do it more succinctly without it, go for it.

(Off topic, I know) Holy **** dude, 56 primaries?!
Yeah yeah. It was a mistake tbh. But I did have the time and money to spend on the secondaries so it wasn't too bad. Everyone always responds with the "off topic but..56" thing all the time lol. Just ask my SDN buddy @pediatricneurotrauma , he/she feels my pain
