I know this has been asked before, but I've read conflicting answers in prior threads.

Will a 7 VR (what about a 6 VR?) eliminate me from DO schools if I have 9-11's in the sciences (say a composite score of 26-27 and a 3.77 gpa) and ordinary EC's?

Also, is there a resource similar to the MSAR for MD schools that breaks down each DO school's 10th/50th/90th percentile section scores so I have a better idea on whether I can get in with a 7 VR?

Thanks for any input.

7 is fine. 6 borderline/puts you out of a lot of competitive schools

I got accepted with a 6 in VR to Nova (27 composite score). I also had 11 interview invites to top tier schools like DMU, Rowan, Touro-NY, and obviously Nova. It just depends on the rest of your application. Your chances should be good, especially if you have great ECs.

Disclaimer: If have less than a 7, you will get screened out by KCUMB, and UNECOM will have problems with you too.

I would say a 4 will put you out of the game... A 5 might be acceptable for low tier DO schools. A 6 will be ok for almost every school except a few schools like CUSOM, KCUMB assuming your composite score is close to the average score of such school.

Thanks for the replies. That's encouraging to know Chillywilly. My AAMC practice tests started out fine for VR (10, 9, 11 on the first three) but have taken a complete nosedive recently (got a 6 and two 7's and had to blindly guess on a passage because of timing issues). I don't understand the randomness of this section and I really don't care. But I am bracing myself for the worst case scenario where I bomb verbal rather than get a 9-10.

Just out of curiosity, are there any resources that show each school's section score cutoffs? I know there's that excel spreadsheet from here that lists average scores, but anything else? Or is the only way to find out to call/email each school?

I took the MCAT twice. On my first attempt, I scored 3. On my second one, I scored 7. I got ii's from ~70% of the schools I applied to. I was accepted to two of the three schools I interviewed at. In fact, I had the "pleasure" of talking about my struggle with the VR section and how I was able to bring it up by 4 points.

Anicetus, a known member on this site, got accepted to every single DO school he interviewed at (8 of them) and one of his top-choice MD schools with a 6 on VR. That's said, his composite score was 31.

Got a 7 on VR, and scored 5 iis. Had decent BS and PS though.

Another one of these Subscore threads? Check out the underdog list thread and you will be surprised how much one bad subscore doesn't matter. I was worried with an 8 in VR back in my day, but I think just more weird situational student profiles have popped up recently.

I will say with a score of 6 you still have a chance of II and getting. I know I have had 3 II with a score of 6 in VR and have been accepted by one school with one rejection and one still to interview. But the reason for rejection wasn't my score but rather me being out of school for too long. Good luck.

No, but a 6 will probably wait-list you at my school, and alas, no.

For any UD's reading...this person (Indianarn) got 3 ii's with 3.3/22

Don't think for a second that your 22 MCAT didn't hurt you at that school. It may not have been a dealbreaker, but they probably would have accepted you if it was higher. Things like that still hold weight post-interview.

You are right, higher score and I might have been in. But with 9 years out of school and really 2 months of preparation for MCAT. I am happy with what I have; higher score and I might have been in. However, everything happens for a reason, I am satisfied. My point was that with a VR of 6 one can get an interview and even get in.
