Can someone please help me...I was trying to find out when you applying online do you send a resume or a CV to the employer? In pharmacy school they make you do a CV, but since pharmacy becoming such a competative field with lot of volume of applicants what is the normal way of applying to an employeer?

Depends.

For retail, resume will suffice. If you have a CV and look like an overachiever, they may ask you "why not residency", and you better have a good answer for that.
Otherwise, CV.
