Not a large amount, but still that's probably 40 or so RPh jobs being reduced as the new schools are graduating more students.

Does anyone know what is actually going to happen to the new grads? are schools helping any? what is going to happen to tens of thousands of new grads that can't find a job?

I suppose that they will need to find a job just like the rest of us. Pharmacy is just an option, this is a free economy

Health Care Partners is closing stores in the Midwest.!00 pharmacists layed off.

Like Walgreens, CVS is only closing stores that are under-performing or too close to another CVS such as a buyout store. When CVS acquired Target pharmacies, it was known not all would remain. I do feel for those whose jobs are no longer secure and I hope they find gainful employment elsewhere.

Does than mean many of these closures are Target pharmacies? Why did CVS buy them then?

don’t think they can make it as techs. Most never actually worked in a pharmacy. Their schools just taught them mtm, provider status, and blood pressure/glucose screenings. Maybe they can apply to LVN or MA schools.

True, most new grads these days have no idea what they're doing in retail. They are extra so it doesn't take away from tech hours. But if you traded tech hours for a new grad pharmD then the store would be a disaster - they are slow, can't do data entry or insurance, and have to be told what to do all the time. No different than a new tech.

And that’s why new grad salaries (not grad intern) should be $20-25/hr, consistent with the skillset they bring to the table.

While we don't know exactly which CVS/Target retail pharmacies are closing, it is very likely that while CVS expanded, it opened in close proximity to a Target before the buyout was even planned. So there are two pharmacies at pretty much the same location and management decides to close one. Target wanted to sell off its pharmacy business as it wasn't making much money from them, and chances are, they were improperly managed. CVS was looking to improve its total footprint so it was a win-win for both sides. I don't think CVS could just pick and choose which stores to buy from the buyout-- just had to take them all.
