Cytokinesis is a process of it's own which began during telophase of mitosis and even continue after mitosis finishes. Technically Interphase follows mitosis so when you have multiple choice what would you pick?

1. Interphase
2. Telophase

Can someone be certain from DAT point of view. Like we know 36 ATP is for DAT.

You have the right idea in that cytokinesis starts during telophase and may or may not finish before telophase is over. It is a completely independent process from telophase and should really not even be associated with this process of mitosis/meiosis.

If such a shady question was placed on the DAT asking you when cytokinesis occurs, I think it would be best to say telophase given the choices of interphase and telophase (if that was your question).

I highly doubt that a question like this.. with such close and debatable answers would find its way to the DAT. If they did want to quiz you over when cytokinesis occurs it would be obvious as they would provide possible answers such as:

A. Prophase
B. Telophase
C. Metaphase II
D. Anaphase


Furthermore, you should know that cytokinesis doesn't always occur; this is many times the case during meiosis. Another reason why this is a bad subject to test over on the DAT.

I totally agree with you. It is certainly a gray area and bad subject to test over on the DAT. I just wanted to be prepared in the case if I see such a question. I encountered same question during my practice test and was bit confused what to choose as answer cause they had both Interphase and Telophase, rest of the choices were obvious elimination.

Telophase is a part of mitosis (meiosis) which defined, is nuclear division. Cytokinesis, defined, is cellular division.

Telophase is the better answer though. Interphase pretty distinctly refers to G1, S, and G2. In starting with G1, you have a post-cytokinesis cell and for this reason, telophase is the best choice.

I'm not sure what you're asking. But perhaps you're confused about some of the terms. So here's some clarification:
Cytokinesis has nothing to do with the process of mitosis. It's a process that may or may not resume after mitosis is completed, depending on the cell type.
Same goes with interphase; it's NOT part of mitosis. It's a preparation phase that takes place before mitosis begins.
Mitosis always begins with Prophase & ends with Telophase.

i think he knows. he means if it were on the dat what would you pick if you were given those two options. just like for cellular respiration--in actuality it produces ~30 ATP, but for dat purposes know 36ATP.

The number of ATP produced in cellular respiration isn't considered to be 36 just for DAT purposes. It has to do with the cell type and the presence or the absence of Mitochondria. But that's a whole different discussion.
As for the OP's question, I was trying to clarify for him/her that Cytokinesis and Interphase aren't parts of Mitosis. So, if the question has to do with Mitosis and its different phases, "Telophase" is a better choice compared to cytokinesis.
