Hello everyone,
I believe some folks here study in the Czech Republic. Any idea about the Czech language programs for non-EU citizens? The info I found on the universities' websites only regards local citizens. I do know Czech, and believe I'll be able to handle studying in Czech. The question is what do I need to get accepted, and what will I have to pay, keeping in mind I'm not a EU (or Czech) citizen? The English language program tuition is really more than I can afford.

hi
it is free for everyone, even for non eu students.you have to sit in a competitive exam then there will be an interview. But before that you have to do a course in czech language and pass exams in phy chem bio .competitive exam subjects will be phy chem math/bio.people who come to study in czech medium usually take a one year preperatory course.http://ujop.cuni.cz/page/en/strediska/marianske_lazne/kurz20.html
bye

navdoc007 has pretty much summarized it for you. You have to take sit the entrance exam (which is uber-competitive in the czech parallel and tons and tons of them write it). when you get through it, then you're in and you pay almost nothing....just like the czech students...it's free of cost even for Non-EU citizens.

In fact I've seen a couple of students from Africa and the Middle Eastern countries who are studying in the czech parallel and I think some of them are really coping up well (the Czech parallel has a loooooot of students...there were almost 600 this year!!! and tons of them do fail, but if you're really good with the language and willing to take the risk, then you shouldn't have a problem). If you don't mind me asking, are you of Czech origin?

I know personally several people who were non EU citizens and have done it this way. You enter med school in Czech Republic as self pay and after 1st year you switch to study in Czech lenguage, which is almost free. You will avoid these tough entrance exams which you would have to take along with Czech high school graduates. But you must be fluent in Czech so you can switch. People who have done it went trough 1 year of intensive Czech prep course. Hope this helps. Of course nobody will tell you if you call the school because they want money for all 6 years. But what I just descrb it is doable.

shreypete - of course I don't mind. No, I'm not of Czech origin, but Russian was kinda like my first language, now the slavonic languages are pretty similar, and it wasn't too difficult for me to learn Czech. I'm pretty crazy about Czechia, Praha and even like the language, even though it's not as beautiful as Italian.

Slapa - special thanx to you, that sounds great. So you are saying I can start the self-paying English program and then transfer to the Czech program without having to do the entrance exams and I'll not have to pay the tuition?
Ah, and must I do the Czech preparatory course, even if do know Czech reasonably well? Will I have to do an exam in Czech if I transfer from the English to Czech program?

Oh then you should definitely not have any problems. I know quite a few russians in the First Faculty.

Yeah you don't have to take the entrance exam once you've finished your 1st year in the English division and then want to transfer to the Czech parallel although they will still check your language proficiency.

No you do not have to take any czech exam, people who toook the Czech prep course did could not speak at all.
Regarding med schools, I know Prague (and all it med schools) have its own charm, but consider Masaryk University in second largest city Brno. There is brand new campus and there will be a new research center together with Mayo Clinic, what I want to say it that u can get into some research and us contacts that can help u in future, and secondly in Brno there is a lot of stuff going on there except school. I am graduate from there and I would recommedn it.

That's very helpful and gives me some hope. I'd love to study somewhere in Czechia, rather than Romania, Moldova or Ukraine, which are just about the only alternatives I can afford without stretching too much.

Slapa, I am considering Masaryk University, and also the Palacky University in Olomouc. Those are very nice towns, and must be also cheaper than Prague. There's also the medical faculty in Hradec Kralove, another town I like. Well I said I was a big fan of Czechia.
I'm just afraid they won't allow me to transfer to the Czech program after first year and study for free. I mean, if I don't have Czech or EU citizenship, they must be only interested in me as a full-paying student, and no interest in allowing me to study for free, even if I know Czech. And I won't be able to afford the English program tuition for 6 years.
Btw., it's probably too late to apply for the 2008-09 year?
