"D" Grade In a Course

Hey guys. I am a new member and I need some help.

Last year, I was a freshman and in one of my physics courses, I did very poorly and only got a grade of D.

So, this was just one course I did this poorly on but physics is a prereq for all med schools. I saw somewhere that med schools don't accept a D grade for a prereq course.

Is this true? because my cumulative GPA is much higher and more competitive..

Is it recommended that I repeat this course and get a higher grade?

I don't know much about AMCAS but from what I gather, it counts each attempt at a course separately and doesn't average the two attempts into one mark so it would be the same as taking any other course.

I'm fairly certain most schools require a C or better in all their prereqs. So you'd probably have to retake it or take another physics course to get that prerequisite covered.

And yes, you're correct, AMCAS will show each class. DO schools however have a grade replacement policy if you're interested in hiding it.

Strange..they don't seem to mention a minimum grade for acceptance of a prerequisite course on their websites..i figured that as long as we pass, it would be accepted.

Technically, I think you didn't pass it. You just received credit for it. Most schools have a "C" as prerequisite for their next course anyway.

When I was filling out UC Irvines secondary it specifically stated that you needed a B or higher in all pre-reqs. Some people called in and got mixed replies though so I think the policy is new or at least a little shaky at the moment.
