Just figured I would start a thread for people who plan on applying D.O during next years cycle that would start in fall of 2015. Just wondering what others are doing to prepare. If you have started getting your app ready, personal statement, letters of recommendation and what not. What schools you like, where you plan on applying. Im going to be going to a shadow day at AT Still in arizona in May, if anyone else will be there let me know. What your stats are like any interesting ec's research experiance. Basically just wondering who my peers will hopefully be come fall of 2015.

I, too, am applying next cycle for 2019!!! 😀 :highfive:

Buuuuut.... don't you think it's a little bit too early to start a 2019 thread?

Why would you write it as "D.o."?

Also its never too early to talk to potential future class mates and be neurotic together. Its what SDN was made for.

I didn't mean to write it like that I tried to figure out how to fix it but I can't 🙁

C'est la vie! It shall become the staple for the class of 2019 here on SDN! XD

And who said anything about being neurotic? :smack:

I was kidding.

The only problem with "Class of..." thread beyond the first cycle is that DO subsection doesn't really get much traffic unlike Pre-Allo.

But its what makes Pre-Osteo special 😍

Who needs pre-allo anyway?

I have six letters in my pre med office already (4 faculty, 1 D.O, 1 from a rehab center where I worked) . I'm planning on doing paleontological research soon and I'll be writing a thesis on that for credit (I'm a biology and geology major with a history minor). I'm going to TRY to start my Personal Statement that way I can submit my primary as soon as possible because I'll be out west for half the month of June (Geological expedition for my major). ALso I'm going on an ecology field trip to Costa Rica next winter for biology. My top two D.O schools are NYCOM and NY Touro (I want to stay in state). The only thing and I mean the only thing keeping me back from my top choices is the evil one. The one who brings tears and shatters souls. The one who will take your dreams, eat them, spit them out, eat them again, and finally burn them. The MCAT. Plan to take it in May. Anyone started to study?

In all seriousness, though... Nah... focusing on organic chem and physics right now.

I wouldn't recommend people applying to low tier MDs to ever use pre-allo. Some of their chance me forums make me laugh. SDNers tend to rip weaker applicants apart.

I said what I said because I, personally, have zero inclination to apply to allopathic schools. For whatever reason, they don't attract me at all.

I do admit I would take a in-state MD even the low tier private ones in my area over a DO school even if it costs more.

My favorite DO however is out of state and is within my gpa range. The instate MDs... not so much. If I can improve my BCPM by 0.2 and my cgpa to 0.2, I could be competitive for about 4-5 in state low tier MDs. Along with a 31-32+ MCAT. It's all personal preference off course.

I would be perfectly happy being a DO.

To each his own. 😉

What exactly is the reasoning behind this?

I originally got interested in osteopathy because of the holistic care/whole person ideology that seemed more concentrated among DOs than what I saw/heard about from MDs (while I was growing up). My undergraduate education further drilled care of the whole person into my worldview. Additionally, the only med student who graduated from my university's undergrad and came back to talk to our premed committee was a DO student - the MD students never came back (which I think is lame on their part).

I dunno, I just feel - and have always felt - more in sync with DO than MD. *shrugs*

I mean, this is all really good to regurgitate during an interview. But really in practice it doesn't seem to be all that true. MDs are trained just as adequately in the psychosocial paradigm and to be compassionate and favor preventive medicine. In the end as a DO chances are you'll practice medicine the same way as a MD.

Yep, I agree.

Now that I'm older, I recognize this; growing up, however, it wasn't that way. I have lots of friends that are pre-allo, too, and they want me to go with 'em. It's just not what I want, since I've had my eyes on DO for so long now... Not to mention that I haven't seen an MD program that just jumped off the pages to me, whereas there have been a couple DO schools that seem more "me". 🙂

Do you guys know where the LECOM Bradenton Class of 2019 Facebook page is?
Cause when I google it . . .I keep coming up with the class of 2018.

I think it would be nice . .. for ease, if we were to post up the Facebook links for each osteopathic school's "class of 2019".
Congrads to everyone on getting in!

I'm applying this upcoming cycle. Haven't started anything regarding my app yet. Just shadowing, volunteer work, and I start scribing this month.
