Hello everyone,

Now that PD's can see applications, could someone please tell me if they are able to see that you took the USMLE but did not release the score to the specific program. I am a D.O. and have uploaded my USMLE score to ERAS as required, but I have not assigned it to any Allopathc programs and I am trying to find out if I need to. Thanks

The answer appears to be no. I started looking at apps this weekend, and there is no place where exam attempts are listed other than on your transcript. So, if you don't release your USMLE scores to programs, they will not be able to tell that you took them.

That being said, the rules regarding whether DO's MUST release USMLE scores when applying to allopathic programs is unclear. The ERAS instructions state that osteopathic students applying to allopathic residency programs must "request" their USMLE transcript -- whether that means you must release it to allo programs is unclear (given the ambiguity, I don't think you need to, but I'm not an expert on the matter)

i am just about to request my USMLE transcript, however I wont be assigning them to any of my ACGME programs, I have contacted them that they will accept COMLEX however I still have to pay the fee even though it is not assigned?

PD: do you see that the transcript is available or nothing at all regarding the transcript. Thank you

I can now confidently reply that I will not see whether you took the USMLE or not. If you don't send your USMLE scores, I won't know. It's fair game to ask at an interview -- and if you're asked, do not lie.

So are you saying it is better to be upfront about a failing USMLE score by releasing it to the programs instead of waiting to see if asked during an interview?
If someone said they failed USMLE during an interview would you not rank them and thus, making it a waste of time interviewing them?

Piggybackin' here.

I took both and decided to send out my Step 1 score initially on the 15th. I took Step 2, but was in that funky August group so I just got back my score today and pretty much got punched in the nuts. I passed, but it isn't great at all. I clicked the "do not automatically retransmit". So do I have to send in the step 2 score or "retransmit"? I'd rather the program directors just see my COMLEX I, II, and PE and USMLE Step 1.

Any help is super appreciated.

Thanks.

This is one of those things that should be in our imaginary FAQ.

No...you don't have to release the score.

But...if someone asks, and you don't answer truthfully:
1. I hope a dingo eats your testicles/ovaries.
2. You will be setting yourself up for the opportunity for a program to fire you without cause since you will have violated you Match agreement (by misrepresenting yourself).

Now...the reality is that you're more likely to get asked what kind of car you drive than you are whether or not you took USMLE 2CK and what your score was. Also, you passed, so, minor harm, minor foul.

TL;DR: No. If asked, don't lie.

If you failed a USMLE step, you're probably better off not releasing your USMLE scores. if someone asks about them on an interview, then you need to be honest. It will be tempting to say that you didn't take them. And, most likely, you'd get away with it since there really isn't any way I can check. However, if I do find out about it you can be fired immediately regardless of your performance. So, that's why I'd be honest.

But, most likely, no one will ask.

Totally agree.

And, dude, let's write that FAQ. After application season (so for next year)
