D.O. school without orgo lab?

Hey, just wondering if there are DO schools that do not require the organic chem lab? And are these D.O. schools better ones?

And if I end up taking orgo chem lab after graduation, say at a comm college, will that hurt me at all?

It is my understanding that orgo lab is to be included into the pre-req coursework... then again, I've been mistaken before... about several things!

There are some schools (DMU is the only one I can think of) that will substitute ORGO for biochemistry. I need to find out which schools do this because I may not have ORGO II lab when it comes time for me to apply.

You don't need to have it by the time you're applying, just by the time you finish. I'm just finishing up Bio lab now.

Are you going to apply this year???? I FINALLY am doing so, but, ironically enough, EVERYTHING that could possibly go wrong right NOW has! So far in these last two months, I've been laid off, lost my iPhone, and found out that my [now] xgf cheated on me while I was gone at Army training last year... and then she still wants to see me even though she has been doing so for the last year with some ugly dude from minn.! Two and a half years of my life wasted because of her.

Don't worry girls come and go. I can relate wasted my freshman year with a girl. Now I wish I never met her! Have to make up by taking summer classes until I graduate so I can keep up. A mistake that will never be forgotten.

Just take the class. Pretty much every school requires an organic chem lab. You'd be so limited in your application it wouldn't even be worth it...and you'd be competing against people that DID take the class. Organic lab is much much much better than gen chem labs. Its a ton of work but it is more fun and interesting.

Most will require it. You don't have to have it when you apply, but you will have to have it when you matriculate.

I was planning on applying this year but I've decided to wait until next year to apply. I had some health issues that did a domino effect on my application plans for this year. Good luck in this application cycle. 😀

I sent an email to LECOM-B (I assume that LECOM-E is the same) and they replied that they would replace the Lab for Biochem. I think I'm going to send an email to all the schools I'm going to apply to. I will let you know what they say.

Well I was basically used, woke up every morning at 7 a.m. so I could pick her up and drop her to school and her internship during the summer. I had classes around 1 o clock so I didn't need to wake up until 10. Bought gifts, took her places and I find out shes doing drugs!!!! (extacsy, marijuna, acid, molly, shrooms, etc. I'm sure there were more) Well she said she was going to Pennsylvania for the summer but I wasn't told it was WOODSTOCK!!!!!!! Pretty much I was played out hardcore. Since I messed up by avoiding class and her going I fell one semester behind. Now I am paying the price by taking summer classes, by taking 16 credits this summer and by next summer the same plan.

All I have to do is keep my head in the books and everything will be fine.

Just got my GPA for this semester at the cc and its bad!!!!! a 2.77

Pre-cal=C+
Anatomy & Physiology 1= B+
Sociology=C+
Philosophy=B+

Well since the electives are out of the way I guess I can concentrate on the core Biology, chem and all that good stuff. Taking Calculus in the summer 1&2 wish me luck

The biochem class I took was lab-based, but it wasn't a separate lab grade.

I apply in '11 hopefully

The way I'm taking classes I will be able to if not then '12. Even though I messed up I'm confident I can continue on with my goal. Just need to be more focused.

Yes, from what was stated in the email is that the biochem course will replace the lab portion of ORGO.

Plus, why do you want to be in a relationship with any girl before you're a doctor? The selection is better when you are a full blown Physician. You can sleep with a 7 or you can sleep with a 10.

To the OP, OChem lab is not nessecarily required to matriculate. Once you get your acceptances, call your school. In many cases, they will waive or substitute classes. (For example, I substituted Biochem for OChem lab).

As a precaution, plan on taking it anyway though.

That seems to be the case for most but there are some schools that will not substitute. I would really like not having to take ORGO II lab but it looks like I will be taking it.

However she is currently telling everyone that she is happier than ever and made some extremely disgusting comments to my sister recently... what is ironic about this whole scenario is that the night before she left for Minnesota for spring break [when she told me that she was going to visit her grandparents in Fla.] she spent the entire night with me and then proceeded to fly out the very next morning at 5 AM!!!! Apparently, she told everyone else, to include this loser that she's with at this very moment, that we ended our relationship in December and that she has been exclusive with him... yet she was staying with me at least twice a week, EVERY week, until I learned of this. It has been two months now since I learned of this and I continue to find out more and more lies that she told me all the time. And this female is not only a Sunday school teacher, but soon to be a third grade teacher as well!

The human emotion is very powerful but it can be conquered. Work on rebuilding yourself. Let it go my friend, for your own sanity and the bright future that you will have. A third grade teacher????? Oh man did we date the same girl lmaooo joking. The girl I messed with wants to be a elementary school teacher I think even lower then third grade not to sure. I just hope she fails the darn drug test.

IDK... but they may be related... mine currently attends wright state univ. in dayton, ohio [as do I]... she has failed her praxis repeatedly yet told her parents that she was spending all of that time with me to help me study... five months worth...

University of New England offers an online organic chem lab. i just finished it. Not too hard and it is self paced. The course is offered through the DO school as part of their distance medical organic chem program. i took the honors ochem through my school and enjoyed it, but the solvents in the lab made me miserable!
