Every school is different, but at OSU we're in school from 9 to 12 for lecture classes, and usually 1 to 5 is for labs.

For the first semester, Monday we had no lectures and only an anatomy lab review in the afternoon, and Friday is only lectures in the morning with no labs. Which was nice because one you got out of school at noon on Friday, you didnt have school again until monday at 1. Tuesday thru Thursday you are in school from 9 to 12 and labs from 1 to 5.

Second semester is a bit different. Monday thru Friday is lecture from 9 to 12 (except Monday we start at 8), and we have labs in the afternoons on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

thanx soooooooooo much for ur post :D i really apreciate it..

ANYONE ELSE wanna tell me their sched's hehee    please

At CCOM, classes are roughly from 8-4 every day, with an hour for lunch. Some days get out a bit later, others a bit earlier. Attendence is optional for everything except Anatomy lab, Physiology Workshop, and Biochem Workshop. Lots of people skip lots of classes.

We are on the quarter system, with each quarter consisting of 10 weeks+1 week of finals for a total of a 33 week school year. Our summer break is about 3.5 months, and we get a 1 week Spring Break and Fall Break, plus 2 weeks for Winter Break. Of course, all of this changes after 2nd year!

NYCOM is on a block system with exams every 4-5 weeks. First year classes are generally 9-5 but most of the afternoons the first half of the year you have either anatomy lab(2 days) or OMM lab(1 day with two afternoons off. Classes are optional and as it probably goes with a lot of places, many people don't attend. The second half of the year there are fewer lab days b/c anatomy is over and more lecture time. Everyone figures out what classes to go to and what classes not to go to.

For the schools where class attendance is optional, do you have a note service or taped lectures?

Thank you!

PH

All notes are distributed by professors at the beginning of each quarter at CCOM. Going to class simply reinforces what is in the notes, and allows you to ask questions/clarify things. In class professors also have various demonstrations, power point presentations, etc. that can make the material easier to understand in some instances. There is not a note service and lectures are not taped.

At NYCOM, they hand out lecture notes, but the notes don't always match what the professor is going to talk about that day, you basically take your chances when you don't attend the class of a new professor.
The lectures are taped if the professor allows it.

At UHS we have lectures from 8am to 12pm Mon-Fri.
Osteopathic labs are 2 hours on Monday afternoon, and 1 hour for Pathology each Monday afternoon where we do presentations.
Either Tuesday or Thursday we have 2 hours of Anatomy plus one hour of anatomy directed study to see what the other group dissected.
Wednesday is usually either a free afternoon or we have Introduction to Core Communications and Early Clinical Experiences.
Friday afternoons are usually free.

Quizzes are usually every 2 weeks in a section (50-80 questions, 2 hours long).
The section final exam is about every 6 weeks (about 200 questions, 4 hours long).

Professors usually provide us with their notes and we also have a notepool service. All lectures are also taped and can be viewed in the library.

-----------------------------------------------

Our school reserves Monday mornings for exams each week. And when it gets crazy in second quarter, we would also have exams on Thursday mornings. Yuck.

We are on the quarter system and get two weeks off for thanksgiving first year (that becomes one week in second year).

Our classes were generally 8-2 with an hour for lunch. In the afternoon we go to our preceptor's office, have an elective class, have lab, or have a free day. It depends on what semester it is.

This second semester we have something like 28 exams, plus fill-in-the-blank neuroanatomy quizes every week. Does any other schools have that one semester where there's an avalanche of exams?

Are labs really 4 hours? wow...like orgo ewwww.....are they bearable? cuz orgo lab wasnt lol

Don't worry. Nothing on this planet is as bad as organic lab, but I suggest only applying to schools that have coffee shops within walking distance.

KCOM is on a quarter system, which means year-round classes. This year the schedule is a bit messed up because of a break given to military students (KCOM has the most HPSP members of any med school, allo or osteopathic) so they can complete their Officer's Training. This year, KCOM has a huge break in the summer and very few breaks the rest of the time. Normally there are one to two week breaks throughout the year.
During first year classes, KCOM is basically 8-5 every day with an hour for lunch. OTM labs are in the mornings, Anatomy in the afternoon. Sometimes there are breaks, such as when the class is split inot two groups and one group goes to a biochem lab and the other half gets some free time. Tests are always at 7:30am and can happen any day Monday through Friday. Once the quarter gets going, there are basically major tests every week.

All lectures are optional. Profs provide notes and figures, lectures are recorded and available to download as mp3s, and sometimes videotaped as well. Also, somebody from the class transcribes the tough lectures in a word file, so that is available as well. All power point presentations are available to download.

DrSmiles, are attendances to classes and labs mandatory? If so, which are and which aren't? I really like to have a flexible schdule.
