D.O schools in NY

To my understanding, there are only two D.O schools in NY correct? How competitive are they?

I thought Touro was the only DO school in NY, but I'm guessing the other one is UNECOM? Both are about as competitive as DO schools get.

A lot of people apply to NYCOM and Touro, so they've been getting more competitive. Also, I think NYCOM prefers people from the tristate area.

Yeah NYCOM I think prefers in state or locals. I didn't hear anything from them after turning in my secondary. Silence.

just watched an episode of NY Med, had a gorgeous chief resident on the show named Dr. Tara Margarella, she went to NYCOM, DO physicians are gorgeous lol

I thought there were 3 though besides Tuoro and NYCOM. Which is the less competitive one? Also I believe Tuoro is a Jewish college. They accept non Jews of course correct? And there is no advantage of being Jewish or anything? I think the average MCAT score for both colleges is a 27 but they might be a long shot for me because I'm aiming for at least a 25. Anyone get in or knows someone who got in with a <27 MCAT score? I really want to try to stay in NY or at least the surrounding area but being that there are only 2 D.O schools will be difficult to accomplish that.

In this process you can never bank on just 2 schools. There are just way too many variables.Yes, Touro is jewish..which means they observe the holidays. So you will just get more days off to study basically. Of course they accept non-jews! The advantage of being jewish though is another thing though. Everyone has their bias and it could lead to someone picking one candidate over another. It is definitely does happen a majority of the time but it probably does have influence here or there.

I thought I was 100% getting into touro but was waitlisted. Don't sell yourself short on the MCAT. Just work your freakin ass off and aim for that 30!!!! I want to stay in NY area as well.

I really do want to get that 30 or above but realistically after what happened to me on the ACT and other standardize tests, I don't think that's possible. What were your stats btw if I may ask when you applied to Touro?

If you put the time in you can def get a good score. Aim high and don't settle for low scores!

I applied to Touro in Sept. but the admissions office didn't process my LOR's by accident. I didn't find this out until 3-4 weeks later when I asked if my file was complete. I got an ii a week later for the beginning of November. I crushed the interview. Had the people laughing a bunch and had a great conversation so I dunno what went wrong!

cGPA:3.3 sGPA:3.0 MCAT: 10V 11P 12B

Maybe they thought you're GPAs were low? What college do you go to?

You sure you'll be able to pass step1?
